The scanner could definitely be improved for this kind of setup, but the best fix for you is to put every movie in separate folders. What you're seeing is a consequence of having them all in the same folder as the scanner tries to find extras, subtitles etc.

I was afraid of that. It's something I'm working on gradually, but it's a big job with as many films as I have. I've noticed however that it isn't scanning everything in that directory, though? There's definitely a lot of movies in that folder that aren't showing up in those logs. It's also a little odd that this wasn't happening with 10.8.x.

Either way, it's good to have an explanation. I guess I have some work to do! Thanks for your help!

I bought a FileBot license and processed all the loose files in my /data/movies folder, and it appears to have solved this issue. I still don't understand why only some of the loose files triggered ffprobe, or why this only occurred with 10.9.x, but frankly I don't need to. Thanks again for the help, I'm closing this issue.
