You're right !
This is some frenglish on my part ;-)
Should rather use "checked out" which seems better
from scm-sync-configuration-plugin.

I would agree.
Depending on how you actually mean it, I could also suggest
"Error while copying file hierarchy to SCM controlled directory"
or
"Error while copying file hierarchy to SCM directory"
or
"Error while copying file hierarchy to directory checked out from SCM"
from scm-sync-configuration-plugin.
