The scripts here form a pipeline to preprocess, analyze, and plot EEG/ERP data collected from a 64-channel BioSemi system with 4 reference electrodes (outer canthi of each eye, above and below left eye).
Before you start, make sure you have Matlab on your computer, as well as both the EEGLAB and FieldTrip toolboxes. Their installation instructions are here and here respectively. If you are working on one of the lab computers, these are already installed.
The pipeline runs in Matlab. If you are not yet familiar with the Matlab environment, I suggest you complete this tutorial before you start.
You may also want to go through the tutorials provided by the toolboxes to get a feel for the process if this is not something you've done before:
Once you have everything installed on whichever computer you'll be doing your analysis:
- Create a folder (directory) to keep everything in one place
- Click on "Clone or download" and select "Download ZIP"
- Unzip the contents in your new experimental directory
- Open Matlab and navigate to this directory
Open modyco_settings_project.m. This is where the settings specific to your project/experiment are stored.
First thing first: change mainDir to your directory. You'll have to do this for each of the scripts you work with that have mainDir in the header.
Next, you'll input the identifiers of your subjects as they appear in the filenames of the .bdf raw EEG files.
The next few are pretty self-explanatory, and any changes should be made carefully as these are methodological choices.
Once you get down to trial types, enter the number of experimental conditions you have, then the specific trigger labels that correspond to each condition.
A coarse outline of the actual pipeline is provided in the processingChecklist file.
