connect-four's Introduction

This project was bootstrapped with Create React App.

Available Scripts

In the project directory, you can run:

npm start

Runs the app in the development mode.
Open http://localhost:3000 to view it in the browser.

The page will reload if you make edits.
You will also see any lint errors in the console.

npm test

Launches the test runner in the interactive watch mode.
See the section about running tests for more information.

npm run build

Builds the app for production to the build folder.
It correctly bundles React in production mode and optimizes the build for the best performance.

The build is minified and the filenames include the hashes.
Your app is ready to be deployed!

See the section about deployment for more information.

npm run eject

Note: this is a one-way operation. Once you eject, you can’t go back!

If you aren’t satisfied with the build tool and configuration choices, you can eject at any time. This command will remove the single build dependency from your project.

Instead, it will copy all the configuration files and the transitive dependencies (Webpack, Babel, ESLint, etc) right into your project so you have full control over them. All of the commands except eject will still work, but they will point to the copied scripts so you can tweak them. At this point you’re on your own.

You don’t have to ever use eject. The curated feature set is suitable for small and middle deployments, and you shouldn’t feel obligated to use this feature. However we understand that this tool wouldn’t be useful if you couldn’t customize it when you are ready for it.

connect-four's Issues

click events for moves should be debounced

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
A user can cause high workloads by clicking multiple times in quick succession.

Describe the solution you'd like
Debounce the click handler functions to avoid triggering lots of processes.

Additional context
It would be nice to avoid including any extra libraries for this.

false wins

Describe the bug
Win is falsely detected

To Reproduce
move steps:
3,3,3,2,2,2,4,4,4,3,4,1,4

vscode trips trying to watch files in build directory

Describe the bug
VSCode appears to try to watch files from the build directory causing it to stop watching any files

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to '...'
  2. Click on '....'
  3. Scroll down to '....'
  4. See error

Desktop (please complete the following information):
Version: 1.31.1
Date: 2019-02-12T02:19:29.629Z
Electron: 3.1.2
Chrome: 66.0.3359.181
Node.js: 10.2.0
V8: 6.6.346.32
OS: Linux x64 4.18.0-15-generic

use react hooks

Describe the solution you'd like
Replace React component classes with react hooks

more efficient winner check process

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Process to determine whether there is a winner is intensive, especially affecting low power devices such as mobiles. This is an issue as the process runs after every single player move.

Describe the solution you'd like
Adopt a more efficient process of checking whether there is a winner. This could be something along the lines of scanning lines spanning the whole board using an accumulator to detect winning patterns.

display temp token when hovering mouse over a column

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
It is unclear what move will be made before actually making a move

Describe the solution you'd like
Temporarily assign a token if hovering in the respective column

Additional context
Should probably be debounced significantly

methods should be ordered in a more linear manner

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Components can be hard to understand for newcomers due to the somewhat random dotting around of where methods are defined.

Describe the solution you'd like
Attempt to reorder all methods in a more linear/logical manner.
