1. Install flowblade_0.6.0-1_all.deb on Linux Mint 11.
2. Try to run flowblade from either the terminal or from the menu.

The flowblade GUI never appears and from the terminal I get the stack trace 
below. It does run on Linux Mint 12.

Created a new project profile CVD NTSC

Added a 18MB mpg file with the same resolution 352x480

Added file to time line

Rendered output with the default project profile

Application says it is rendering file movie.mpg. Shows rendering time and 
updating progress bar.

End results is a file of zero length

Also tried this with DV/DVD NTSC profile with same results

It's true that file Flowblade/menuactions.py doesn't contain import for 
appconst.. Simply adding that line causes other errors, so I think it's not a 
simple omission.

Rendering Encoding Format "Lossless h.264 / .mp4" crashes the application

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Import audio file
2. Put I/O in monitor
3. Place on a timeline
4. Use trim tool to extend it by the beginning
5. Waveform doesn't display correctly (graph is not sync)

If the user disable then display waveform again, the position is correct. 

MLT provides functionality to do slow motion and speed-ups but this is not 
available on FLowblade

Importing h264 videos whether in mp4 or MOV container, majority of media icons 
fail to be created, (some are created, say 2 out of 25) and using the menu item 
'Recreate Media Icons' fails to rebuild those not created already.

Console says this for the h264 in a MOV container:

Not wishing to confuse matters regarding container as I'm aware why the pixel 
formats differ, but why failure to create thumbnail.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. add video file (mine was MPEG4.avi)
2. using clip monitor Mark In and Out points to create slowmo clip location
3. select Render Slow/Fast motion file using Render Range source Mark In to 
Source Mark Out and a setting other than 100% target speed (say 50%)


What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expected the clip within the In Out Range to be slowed at the correct speed. 
Instead, a seemingly random location on the Source Strip was selected and 
slowed accordingly.

Only choosing to render a clip at 100% speed default results in the correct 
location being rendered every time. Rarely, it seemed to work correctly, 
though.  

I have 2 general problems with compositors: giving no result at all and 
parameters giving no or limited result. After some testing, I could bring it 
down to following two flaws:

Compositors with geometry setting giving wrong result: when I move the geometry 
one (or more) pixel(s) up, on start and ending keyframe, the compositor does 
work.

Parameters not working: only the utmost positions work.


I added 5 files: 
- bug_workaround.flb: used to test, just using 2 color clips and a region 
compositor. Geometry is lifted up on both keyframes, softness is set to 100.
- bug_workaround.mpg: a rendering of the result. This is OK.
- bug_softness.mpg: softness set to 99 and rendered, the softness is gone ...
- bug geometry.mpg: geometry reset on both keyframes, compositor not working.
- my_system.txt: info about my system, OS and other stuff.

I get similar problems with other compositors and settings.

If you need more information about my configuration, or if you want me to test 
something, just ask. I really like the way the interface is build, and the 
responsiveness is quite impressing. I still have some wishes for aesthetic 
improvements and basic functionality, but, first things first: lets purge some 
damn major bugs out.

It would be better to have a separate Timeline and clip viewer in flowblade. I 
could monitor where my cursor is on the timeline while selecting and inserting 
the clip from the clip viewer.

A nice-to-have feature would be a possibility to mark chapters and export them 
to a file. The best way should be the well-supported XML-structure used by 
DVDAuthor.

I've got a small example how DVBCut uses this:

1. Delete the ~/.flowblade directory
2. Clone into a new folder and start flowblade
3. Try to add any content to a bin
4. Flowblade will ask you to tell it where to put the thumbnails to
5. It is not possible to choose any folder, since flowblade cannot write to 
~/.flowblade

Now you are stuck with an empty project and you cannot add content.

Workaround:
chmod -R a+rwx ~/.flowblade

I am aware this might be a problem with my setup and not flowblade. But maybe 
you want to check it out.

Flowblade opens the project file saved in kdenlive (as flowblade is also based 
on MLT). But it shows the full sequence as one single clip, and it makes 
difficult to further manipulate. It would be helpful if flowblade splits those 
clips. So that i can import all my kdenlive projects into flowblade.

Currently this can not be done.

`i' and `o' shortcuts are very useful. But it would be nice to have an shortcut 
for "Insert monitor clip range", "Overwrite selected clips with monitor clip 
range" "append monitor clip range" commands. This would make my work much 
faster.

I was rendering some video clips with new audio, but after the rendering 
progress was finished my movie file had no audio track.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04 and the current flowblade version and I tried different 
rendering profiles, but in all cases the problem occured.

A snapshot of my environment is attached.

When I enter a comment for a range in the range log and press return the name 
immediately overwrites the file name leaving an empty comment field. If I enter 
the comment again it switches places with the previously entered comment. If I 
press the star button, the file name appears again. 

Using version 0.10 on a 64 bit elementary-os (Ubuntu 12.04).

While attempting to transition between identically-sized clips using a dissolve 
technique, the clip in the higher track is resized and part of the content of 
V1 remains visible.

I recreated this problem using a sample clip from the intro of my current 
project.  This clip is item 1 below.  I placed this clip onto tracks V1 and V2 
with a time delay added to V2, as shown in the screenshot (item 2).  A 
rendering (item 3) shows the expected jump from the clip to a delayed version 
of the same clip.  I inverted the colors of V2 just for clarity; it does not 
affect the results.  Now, I add a dissolve to the V2 clip and the problem 
arises.  As shown in item 4, the V2 clip shrinks and part of V1 remains visible 
under it.  Note that when V2 becomes the only track with content (the clip in 
V1 has ended) it jumps back to normal size.  A rendering of this strange 
resizing is provided in item 5.

I have used several linux video editors over the last week, and I'm really 
liking the functionality and ergonomics of flowblade.  Keep up the good work!

1.just installed, openshot was installed and frei0r MLT with much trouble a 
while ago (melt & frei0r-plugins???)
2.ppa instructions arent clear, dont know how to translate ppa: etc from the 
launchpad net address NOR choose from the many bewildering BEWARE! versions; is 
MLT and melt the same etc? And should be here as openshot works, correct?
3.all videos on my system (tons) mp4, flv, ogg, dont show up properly when 
added as media. only one lone odd webm shows as video, all the rest claim they 
are audio wrongly.

expect to get on learning this new program as openshot soux; stuck on why cant 
get hard worked videos in here to continue working.

1. look for a "debian" directory - the one used to generate the .deb - on the 
tgz
2. look for a "debian" directory - the one used to generate the .dev - on 
mercurial
3. fail to find said directory

I was expecting to find the directory and files you're using to generate the 
.deb

Looks like the Insert Move is the default behavior when moving clips on tracks, 
I don't see the need to have a button for it. I would suggest using a modifier 
key + move for Overwrite move and get rid of the buttons.

For the trim tools I would also use some modifier keys: let's say you press D 
and click at the end of the clip which would be the equivalent of the One roll 
trim button while pressing F + click, of the 2 roll trim button or something 
along these lines. 
The advantage I see is that you are in the move/trim mode only as long as you 
press the key which reduces the number of operations to get the job done. 

I believe something similar could be done with Lift clip and Splice out clip.

Finally got my flowblade working with supersams help with the screen size patch 
but now having an issue on my wifes computer which seems to be in a never 
ending loop of dependencies.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install through Synaptic Package Manager, which leads to multiple 
unfulfilled  dependencies. See below for output from Synaptic.

All of these were performed through Synaptic...
1. - Try to install python-mlt3
python-mlt3:
 Depends: libmlt4 but it is not going to be installed

2. - Try to install libmlt4
python-mlt3:
 Depends: libmlt++3 but it is not going to be installed

3. - Try to install libmlt++3
ibmlt++3:
 Depends: libmlt5 but it is not going to be installed

4. - Install libmlt5
This removes libmlt4 and then back to square one...

I have also tried clean, update, upgrade and nothing seems to work. I have also 
had outputs saying there are broken packages, although which ones are broken I 
have no idea. I have tried fixing these through Synaptic as well but it doesn't 
seem to do anything.

Make possible to do Fade ins and outs with dedicated filters.

The only app I've found that does this is MS Movie Maker, and I keep having to 
go back to it for this functionality. For beginner video editing, it is a 
pretty awesome feature.

It would be nice to be able to select multiple modes at the same time. Tools 
would be activated depending on mouse cursor position on the clip on the 
timeline (ex : overwrite move on top part, insert move on bottom part), just 
like in Media Composer if you see what I mean.

Flowblade does not start on my Toshiba laptop running Ubuntu 12.04 with all the 
updates. It complaints about my screen being too small (1200X800 - it's a 
laptop), while the minimum requirements are 1152x864.

I'm expecting to be able to set the length of each image.

Error dialog reports:

   Program MELT not found!

I edited Flowblade/mltenv.py at line 50 to look for "mlt-melt", and things seem 
to work fine.


'melt' is the command name of the old freeze/melt compression tool, still 
available in F17 repositories.  

It could be nice to have a proxy manager because consumers video cameras use 
ofter AVCHD which need a very fast computer to deal with. The possibility to 
render the final editing by switching on orginal files could be great.
In fact, it's seems to be very usefull in many case : apple prores as source

What steps will reproduce the problem?

3. Close flowblade
4. Launch flowblade
5. Open last project

Project never open, progress bar in opening windows is in forever loop.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start up program with 1366x768 screen.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I'd expect to be allowed to use the program, instead I get a message because my 
screen is too short by 96px (864 as opposed to 768).

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.6.0 on Archlinux 64bit

This is ridiculous.

When rendering a project,

1. select output folder
2. set name
3. click on render

The file should appear in my selected output folder, but it is always written 
directly in my home folder.


Im using current checkout on fedora.

Currently media drag and drops result in full media length clips.

Make possile to select behaviour where In and Out points set to media are used 
insted. 

Enancement

Would be nice if it were easy make L-cuts and J-cuts,

Edit -> profiles manager -> select a profile -> Load values. Value
"Frame Rate Den." always shows 25 fps regardless of the selected
profile fps.

Needs more audio / video tracks.  Unlimited would be nice. 

EDL (Edit decision list) is the most and ancient form of getting footage from 
and to other Editing Applications. EDL import and export feature is available 
in all the editing application incl cinelerra(import & export), Blender 
(import). It would be very helpful if this feature be included in Flowblade.
I could edit and deliver EDL for Autodesk Smoke or other Color grading apps 
users for Advanced Color Grading / VFX works. Please consider this request.

Importing about 10 footage creates a problem. Flowblade seems to eat memory. 
Same problem with kdenlive. Maybe the issue belongs to mlt ver 0.8.1. This page 
tells that it has fixed major memory leak issue.

How to make flowblade use mlt ver 0.8.2? Or how can i resolve memory eating

I've added for my own usage the possibility to render in Apple ProRes 4:2:2

I don't know exactlly the situation with the patent of Apple ProRes but it is 
very usefull for me to get an intermediate codec in the rendering options. I'm 
working for a TV and they use commercial applications and it's the best way to 
exchange video files between Apple, Microsoft and GNU/Linux. Uncompressed files 
are very heavy.

I test it, export differents files and everything seem to be OK. (I import 
DVCPROHD in Flowblade, clean files, and export in ProRes). Import those files 
in a proprietary workstation is OK.

I've added :

The reason for doing this:

1) The number of tracks correlates strongly with memory consumption and having 
9 editable tracks will make editing HD material on lower end systems 

2) This will also make running flowblade on smaller screen 786 vertical 
resolution devices better as user can decide if they want to have more or wider 
tracks available to for editing.
