I have found a library which iterates over a list of fonts and returns a Boolean for each of them if they are present or not. https://github.com/derek1906/jFont-Checker.

Hey, thanks for your feedback! Unfortunately browsers don't let webpages (or web extensions) pull an accurate list of fonts installed on a computer.
I might be able to add a few safe fonts that most people have to a dropdown, while still giving the option to write in their own.

I don't think this feature should be added. It breaks cross-platform support to some degree, as the fonts available on one OS are not the same as on another. Allowing a raw CSS value allows you to set fallbacks for if the font is not supported, which I think is much preferable for people who use the extension across multiple OSes.
