grblhud's Issues

Can't be installed on a raspberry pi

While very dependency can be installed flawlessly, getting grblhud running is a pain. The main reasons are:

  • package metadata on pypi is wrong, it can run with a much older Python version
  • there is no way to quickly fix it and install on a virtual environment (you need to understand how it should run, nothing describes it)
  • recommended way using flit doesn't work (build error on raspberry pi)

load command prints things for minutes and do nothing

Using this software isn't straightforward.

There is no way to run a gcode directly from the command line.
It seems that the "load" command is to be used first, and then run. But load takes an infinite amount of time to run (use case: raspberry pi).
After waiting around 5 minutes watching number scrolling, the run command throwed an error.

I tried to type run <exact same filename> as I used for load (by the way, lack of completion is annoying) and I see numbers again with no action.

I think the user experience could be improved.
I'm giving up for today but I think most users wouldn't pass the installation step.

Also there is no obvious way to quit.
I tried different (undocumented) classical commands: not working.
^D seems to do something but loops refreshing the command line instead of leaving
^C have to be pressed multiple times...

In WSL2 - Enter does not work, need Ctrl-Enter

When using grblhud in interactive mode, hitting "Enter" on either numpad or regular does not send the command.
For example, typing "help" and "enter" does not execute a command, but instead issues a space.

Using "ctrl-enter" does work, both the regular and numpad enter.

Using WSL2, Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS on Windows 10 Pro and Python 3.12.1
