The wormhole LED pattern transitions take a long time - it's causing large deviations the promptness of servicing the play_random_clip and `wormhole timeout handling.

Consider options:

• Run the sound clips in a separate thread. This is easy, but doesn't address wormhole timeouts.
• Determine which part of the transitions is taking so much time and check the timers there - requires modifying a library, not a good option.
• ...????

Might be good to use some kind of websocket server as a separate (proxied) API endpoint, or polling asssuming the file io isn't insane.

Can we do that in python?
Can we do it as part of the AncientsLogBook class, rather than having to hit the file system?

Currently the software version is expressed as a float, but that can cause issues.

For example:
version 3.1 should be 9 versions before 3.10, but in floats, 3.1 == 3.10, which makes these equal.
