when I pipe the output of test to columnate

./test|columnate

I get this error:

awk: /dev/fd/4:23: (FILENAME=- FNR=53) Fatal: Division by Null 

if you call with -C the output should not create an extra linebreak at the very end

#!/bin/sh

should be

#!/bin/bash

like in the command column, there should be a simple option -x to fill columns before filling rows.

The script should work without having to call it with "COLUMNS=$COLUMNS"

maybe the whole script should be a bash script that includes the awk call inside.

The main goal is to be able to do stuff like:

cat file | columnate
