jessentials

A set of basic "why doesn't this already exist?" utility/library code for Java projects.

Performing a Release

The maven-release-plugin is used to perform releases of this project's modules, deploying the build results to Maven Central (by way of OSSRH).

The modules in this project are intended to be release separately/independently: a release of jessentials-parent shouldn't automatically release jessentials-misc, for example. To ensure this, only run releases from the module subdirectories, like this:

$ cd jessentials.git $ cd jessentials-parent $ mvn release:prepare release:perform

Refresh dependencies, etc. (2018-01)

Haven't touched this much lately: it's past time to go through and update all the dependencies to their latest versions, etc.

Move to Java 11

Java 8 is, uh... pretty old. Think it's about time to bite the bullet and move along to the latest/greatest LTS (which is still just Java 11 -- Java 15 or 16 should be the next one, but not for another year or so).

Maven installs and deploys should only occur if all modules build successfully

Apparently, Maven now supports this, but it's not the default.

Move to Java 8

For all the same reasons as those listed in karlmdavis/rps-tourney#111.

Refresh dependencies, etc. (2020-09)

(Will also address the Tomcat CVE that Dependabot is yelling about.)

Move CI/CD to GitHub Actions

Would be nice to not need (or have to rely on) Jenkins.
