ibm-capstone's Introduction

IBM Applied Data Science Capstone

Space X advertises Falcon 9 rocket launches on its website with a cost of 62 million dollars; other providers cost upward of 165 million dollars each, much of the savings is because Space X can reuse the first stage. Therefore if we can determine if the first stage will land, we can determine the cost of a launch. This information can be used if an alternate company wants to bid against space X for a rocket launch. In this project, we use several machine learning classification algorithms to predict whether the SpaceX Falcon 9 first stage will land successfully. The main stages of this project are:

  • Business understanding and analytical approach.
  • Data collection using SpaceX API and Web scraping.
  • Exploratory data analysis (EDA) and data visualization.
  • Prediction with the help of machine learning.

Our graphs (infographics) show that some features of the rocket launch are related to the outcome of the launches, i.e. success or failure, and finally we will come to the conclusion which machine learning model is our best.
