json-sql-console's Issues

Validate input json

There are few validations that we can do on the json data for optimal user experience while running queries:

  • It should be a parsable JSON array
  • restrict number of items to 1000 (since its all sync, we don't want to freeze browser)
  • have some upper cap on size in kb (need to figure out what size)?

Action required: Greenkeeper could not be activated 🚨

🚨 You need to enable Continuous Integration on all branches of this repository. 🚨

To enable Greenkeeper, you need to make sure that a commit status is reported on all branches. This is required by Greenkeeper because it uses your CI build statuses to figure out when to notify you about breaking changes.

Since we didn’t receive a CI status on the greenkeeper/initial branch, it’s possible that you don’t have CI set up yet. We recommend using Travis CI, but Greenkeeper will work with every other CI service as well.

If you have already set up a CI for this repository, you might need to check how it’s configured. Make sure it is set to run on all new branches. If you don’t want it to run on absolutely every branch, you can whitelist branches starting with greenkeeper/.

Once you have installed and configured CI on this repository correctly, you’ll need to re-trigger Greenkeeper’s initial pull request. To do this, please delete the greenkeeper/initial branch in this repository, and then remove and re-add this repository to the Greenkeeper App’s white list on Github. You'll find this list on your repo or organization’s settings page, under Installed GitHub Apps.

Storage quota exceeded on large json

image

When put in a large json file, it can not be synced to local storage and we see the above error.

We can either

  1. Make the storing to local storage optional
  2. tune the validation to match local storage limits

Show output table

Instead of having to open the console, it would be great to show a table with results. For nested objects/arrays, we may either show expandable view or a simpler readable representation.

Show on screen help

First time user might not understand how to use the too. Following items might help users get started:

  • one liner about how to use the tool
  • about running command with shortcut CMD+Enter / CTRL+Enter (depending on OS)
  • note about data is stored in local storage, not sent to any server
  • version deployed
  • link to the source code
  • credits

Better error handling

When there is a syntax error, the screen goes blank, and console shows error.

The screen should not go blank, and helpful error must be visible on screen.
