Starter Kit City Builder

This package includes a basic template for a 3D city builder in Godot 4.3 (stable). Includes features like;

  • Building and removing structures
  • Smooth camera controls
  • Dynamic MeshLibrary creation
  • Saving/loading
  • Sprites and 3D Models (CC0 licensed)

Middle click for rotating the camera

The readME file should say middle mouse button is used for rotating the camera (in stand of right button now).
Also, the right mouse button is for rotating the building, not the spacebar.
Users should not go into the code the understand that.

Provide default map as a loadable resource

Hi Kenney,

since I want to study your rendering choices in more details, I took the liberty to rebuild your screenshot's example map as a reference.

Maybe you want to bundle it as part of the github project? Either for peaple to copy in their user:// folder, or maybe with some extra "load example map" bound key? (Maybe overkill, but that would provide an example of loading the resource from a project folder)

Please find attached my version of your map (I guess you kept a copy but hey): map.zip

Not for every version...

I , tried to run it on my computer , which unfortunately does not have vulkan, So, it won't open for me..

How to make data from City Builder appear in Godot?

I want a city I build while playing City Builder to also add the streets etc to the Godot editor. So I can play the City Builder game and basically use it to build a map I will then play using the 3D Platformer Kit.

also Kenney Kits would be a cute name for them all its how I name the Folder I put them all in

feature - create real city by openstreetmap

Will be a great feature if you can map the game with data from a real city from www.openstreetmap.org
The idea is to have parts of streets oriented with different angles: for example from 5 by 5 degrees over 360 degrees, you can build any oriented street based on the www.openstreetmap.org data and create a real map on the game.
For joints of these streets will need to have similar titles for each angle.
This will make your game better !
