fabric function is not JSON serializable

I have this in my fabfile.py:

def listfiles():
    run('ls -al')
    run('ls -al')
    run('ls -al')
    run('ls -al')
    run('ls -al')
    run('ls -al')

    run('ls -al')
    run('ls -al')

Upon hitting the /tasks route, this is the error I get:
