What version of Growl are you running?
Are you running this on the same machine as Growl is running ?
Why did you need to change the port number?
If you changed the port number because you were on a different machine, wouldn't you also need to change the host name?

Thanks for the quick reply. I run Growl 1.2.2 since higher versions don't seem to run on OSX 10.6 according to Growl's download page.
Yes I am running on the same machine as Growl. The problem with the default port (23052) is I was getting a "socket.error: [Errno 61] Connection refused" message. The Growl's network preference tab in my Mac says that: "Network notifications use TCP port 23052 and UDP 9887 for communication" so I figured I would use that port, but I might be wrong in my logic, I'm no networking expert..

Ah, Growl 1.2.2 would be the problem. The older versions of Growl only support UDP for the remote protocol. In Growl 2, they switched to the GNTP protocol which this library uses. There was a simple regrowl server I built a long time ago, to both test this library and still support older versions of growl, but I have not tested it in quite a while.

Cool, I've cloned it and taking a look now. Which file should I run to test here?
