I just stumbled on this today, and noticed that you've listed ropey under the string handling section. And although I'm grateful to see my crate in a list of recommendations, in this case it's misplaced.

Ropey was not designed for, and is not well suited to, the kind of work that compilers, interpreters, language servers, etc. do. At best, it would just add a bunch of unneeded bloat, and at worst it would needlessly complicate the code and harm performance.

Ropey's tradeoffs and complexity are really only justified for projects that need to make frequent edits to medium-to-large sized texts (e.g. text editors).

Garbage collectors can be useful inside compilers to manage data structures like the AST both during compilation and evaluation. Here are the ones I have tried:

• gc
• shredder
• broom
