Error opening pom in 2016.2 EAP

Intellij freezes after maven run

For some reason, after a MavenHelper execution, Intellij freezes for 10-20 seconds after which the plugin outputs Process finished with exit code 0.

The only logs I can find in intellij are as follows:

ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException for duplicate dependencies

Hi,

when I add a dependency twice, like

My simple approach was to move dependencyExcluded() out of the for-loop to just after it

This kind of works for the pom.xml in text mode

but the UI is refreshed and displays jmespath-java still for the second dep

After hitting "Refresh UI" it even displays jmespath-java for the first dep as well (see first screenshot).

I need to "Reimport" and then it's fine.

I didn't make a pull request because I'm not sure whether my change would be appropriate because of the UI bugs afterwards.

Your settings indicates, that conflicts will not be visible

From my understanding, the IDEA-133,331 problem is solved, however I get the following warning:

If your project is Maven2 compatible, you could try one of the following:

press Apply Fix button to alter Maven VM options for importer (might cause trouble for IJ 2016.1+)

turn off File | Settings | Build, Execution, Deployment | Build Tools | Maven | Importing | Use Maven3 to import project setting

use IJ 2016.1+ and configure it to use external Maven 3.3.1+ (File | Settings | Build, Execution, Deployment | Build Tools | Maven | Maven home directory)

I'm using IJ 2016.1.2 with maven 3.3.9 In this case the warning should not be seen.

Classcast exception is thrown for nonlocatable Run Configurations

My custom plugin uses a Run Configuration that does not implement LocatableConfiguration. Sadly, this makes Maven Helper plugin unhappy, throwing an exception.

Looking into source code of the RunTestFileAction, there is an explicit cast that might not always be correct.

Create Exclude Action for the Dependency Analyzer

not detecting conflicts in IDEA 14

I believe the plugin is not detecting conflicts with IDEA 14

Debug action passing -DforkMode=never makes tests fail

Thanks for a very useful plugin.

I did run into problem when using it together with com.google.testing.compile / compile-testing maven module, version 0.18.
Maven Helper is version 4.9.193.000.0

My problem is that when running the Maven Debug - test action, the following is logged in the console:

[WARNING] The parameter forkMode is deprecated since version 2.14. Use forkCount and reuseForks instead.
[WARNING] useSystemClassloader setting has no effect when not forking

And then the tests fails with:

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/maven/plugin/AbstractMojo

The problem is that even if I user maven surefire plugin 3.0.0-M4, Maven Helper still add the -DforkMode=never parameter when executing tests.

If I run mvn test -DforkMode=never -DforkCount=0 -DreuseForks=false or mvn test -DforkMode=never I get the same error on command line.

But if I instead use mvn test -DforkCount=0 -DreuseForks=false the tests are able to compile the generated sources and pass as expected.

Why do independencies still exist in the project after i excluded it?

As the issue showing, i have no idea about this phnomenna. I wonder if there's a misopration or the bug in maven helper.I just do the steps as it describes on the tutorials: click Dependency Analyzer then right click on the red one and click the exclude. But it seems to not work and it shows up again in the Denpency Analayer in red color.

Could you help me out this question? Thx a lot.

Change surefire parameters during Debug

Currently you are using -DForkmode=never to disable forking for debugging during surefire execution
however this is deprecated and values set in the pom will override it.
if

                    <forkCount>1</forkCount>
                    <reuseForks>always</reuseForks>

is set via the POM

forkMode is ignored and surefire will fork test making the debugger miss them

you should also set
-DforkCount=0 and -DreuseForks=always to avoid this.

I want a feature that plugin can display properties and profiles in the pom.xml

I advise add two buttons after 'Text' and 'Dependency Analyzer'.
One button named 'Properties' and another named 'Profiles'.
'Properties' display the properties in the pom.xml and display belongs which profile.
'Profiles' display the profiles in the pom.xml.

Bug in the mediation of transitive dependencies

Running version v4.2.183.4139.1 (as reported by IntelliJ Idea) of this plugin

THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM (AS I UNDERSTAND IT) WITH THE TRANSITIVE DEPENDENCIES LIST/TREE WHEN COMPARED TO THE SPECIFICATION

Dependency mediation - this determines what version of an artifact will be chosen when multiple versions are encountered as dependencies. Maven picks the "nearest definition". That is, it uses the version of the closest dependency to your project in the tree of dependencies. You can always guarantee a version by declaring it explicitly in your project's POM. Note that if two dependency versions are at the same depth in the dependency tree, the first declaration wins.
"nearest definition" means that the version used will be the closest one to your project in the tree of dependencies. For example, if dependencies for A, B, and C are defined as A -> B -> C -> D 2.0 and A -> E -> D 1.0, then D 1.0 will be used when building A because the path from A to D through E is shorter. You could explicitly add a dependency to D 2.0 in A to force the use of D 2.0.

Why this bothers me is that it failed to report a dependency conflict when it was supposed to!

MavenHelper not working with IntelliJ 2020.1

Starting IntelliJ and it throws errors:

Error 1:

Problem:
When I click on:
Run Maven -> New Goal

The combo dialog box is not fully editable. I can paste into it. I can backspace in it. I can select items already populated in it. I cannot type in it directly.

Not working with dependencyManagement?

I have a rather large maven project with a parent pom containing a lot of dependencies inside a dependencyManagement-tag.
These dependencies are not shown in the Dependency analyzer tab (in fact, its completely empty).
Once I remove the surrounding dependencyManagement element, the dependencies are shown.

[FEATURE REQUEST] Ability to configure custom maven goal for test

It's great that we can configure custom goals, but those goals are run across the entire project.

Would it be possible to configure a goal that is run specifically for the selected class (i.e. append -Dtest/-Dit.test to the goal)?

Additionally, it would be awesome to be able to give these custom goals a custom name as well.

I have some feature suggestions (some borrowed by Eclipse's equivalent):

keyboard shortcut to tab between "text" and "dependency analyzer" tabs for pom.xml
~~provide ability to start on the "All Dependencies as Tree" radio (either remember from last time, or provide a setting under File>Setting>Other Settings>Maven Helper)~~
if double click on a dependency in the dependency analyzer, then navigate to the corresponding text on the pom.xml "text" tab
~~colour code the different scopes, compile (=prod) vs test etc. Could reuse the colours for prod vs test that IntelliJ defines under File>Setting>Appearance & Behavior > File Colors~~
provide ability to filter dependencies by scope

Rearrange Goals not working

I'm using IDEA Ultimate 2019.1.2 and when I rearrange my goals in Settings > Other Settings > Maven Helper the rearranged list does not get saved.

When I'm rearranging the list I cannot apply the changes either.

For custom (non-Maven) commands it would be nice to:

open the integrated terminal at the module root of a currently selected/opened file
default behavior (open terminal at project path) as fallback if not in a Maven-Module

Dependency analyzer shows wrong version for "compile"

The Maven docs say that for so called transitive dependencies, there are some rules that make clear which dependency version wins.

The shortest path wins. Quote from the docs:

if dependencies for A, B, and C are defined as A -> B -> C -> D 2.0 and A -> E -> D 1.0, then D 1.0 will be used when building A because the path from A to D through E is shorter

Next rule if two dependencies are at the same level. Quote from the docs:

If two dependency versions are at the same depth in the dependency tree, [...] it's the order in the declaration that counts: the first declaration wins.

The Plugin MavenHelper does not respect these rules, especially not the second one. I think MavenHelper takes the highest version for granted, but that's just a guess.

Unable to run integration tests from IntelliJ

Hi,

Recently I tried this plugin in IntelliJ and I was very handly to run single test class or a single test case in a Test file.
However I am unable to run a test if the surefire plugin is configured to run in integration-test phase of Maven.

Steps to reproduce:

Create a Maven project and configure surefire plugin or failsafe plugin to run the test in integration-test phase instead of test phase. Normally this is used for test modules containing integration tests
Create a test class in the test source folder
Open the file in IntelliJ
Right click in the editor and select "Run Maven -> Test SomeSampleIntegrationTest"

Expected result:
Maven build should run and execute the test class

Actual result:
Maven build successfully, however the test class is not run as the test is configured to run in integration-test phase of maven

Proposed solution:
When we right click in the editor, users can be given two options under "Run Maven":

Test SomeSampleIntegrationTest
Integration Test SomeSampleIntegrationTest

Selecting the second option, should execute till integration-test phase of maven.
In this way, if the surefire or failsafe plugin is configured to run the tests in integration-test phase, then the tests will be picked up.

exclude leads to Pom file not found

Hi,

if I want to exclude a maven dependency I get an error "Pom file not found"

For instance I want to exclude commons-logging from spring3-mvc-maven-xml-hello-world

Futhermore I cannot remove a dependency like spring-webmvc. There is no information displayed and nothing happens at all.

Unable to modify settings in IntelliJ 2016.1

After migrating to IntelliJ 2016.1 (Ultimate edition) - although plugin functionality is still present, the settings can no longer be modified since the entry for Maven Helper is missing under Preferences > Other Settings.

dependency exclusion seem not being considered

In the dependencies view ("Dependency Analyzer" botom tab after opening a pom.xml file)

I was trying to exclude some transitive dependencies.
I wrote the name (lang3) in the text box.

Then all the dependencies, which had transitive dependencies matching "lang3" appeared. However, some of them were already excluded.

When I right click and pressed "exclude" I found the following duplicates:

                <exclusion>
                    <artifactId>org.apache.commons</artifactId>
                    <groupId>commons-lang3</groupId>
                </exclusion>
                <exclusion>
                    <groupId>commons-lang3</groupId>
                    <artifactId>org.apache.commons</artifactId>
                </exclusion>
            </exclusions>

Besides ordering the group before the artifact, it seems it didn't detect the previous exclusion.
Is this expected behavior?

[FEATURE REQUEST] Ability to use different Maven versions for different modules

We have a rather complex setup of different components that unfortunately require different Maven versions (namely 2.2.1, 3.0.5 and 3.2.5). It would be great if MavenHelper had and ability to run different goals on different modules with different Maven's.
