krtierney.com's Introduction

Hi there πŸ‘‹

I'm Kaitlyn.

I'm primarily a full-stack-ish web developer/software engineer/programmer/computers person. You can read a bit about my background or find my CV on my website.

Here is a list of the work-related things I'm good at and like to do:

  • Learning new things very quickly to a reasonably high standard
  • Clearing blockers, improving process, championing documentation, to help others work better and more efficiently and be self-sufficient.
  • Finishing things and seeing them through, taking ownership
  • Maintaining code quality through code reviews + pre-review checklists, peer coaching, defining and documenting conventions and style guides
  • Identifying and mitigating risk, with things like carefully crafted release plans for complex work, considering testability and observability
  • Setting or maintaining overall strategic technical direction, alignment with business goals
  • Fostering environments of psychological safety, cohesive team dynamics, shared vision

krtierney.com's Issues

Image carousel doesn't include alt attributes

Not really sure how to add alt attributes to the image files, actuallyβ€”it looks like there are single-purpose plugins designed to improve the way Jekyll natively handles images.

The other issue with the image carousel as-is is that it's really slow. It fetches all of the images before displaying anything, which can take a lot of time if they're not cached yet, even through Cloudflare. So it might be worth figuring out how to write my own image carousel from scratch, something that's more accessible and performative. Maybe a good exercise to play around with Elm a bit more?
