Synchronous API calls are the reason this is as slow as it is. Re-implement backend using multiple threads or coroutines to make requests (or just rewrite it completely with something more up to the job).

Implement some sort of lazy load functionality. Right now, requesting results from a large repository (anything with > 100 stars) will crash the site (since we're loading at least 100*100 repositories).

Lazy loading should solve this issue, maybe load 100 at a time. Shouldn't be hard to get this working with the current project structure.
