salyutstations's Introduction

I HIGHLY reccommend downloading my Soviet Spacecraft to use with this. It is the sister mod meant to be used with this.

I HIGHLY reccommend downloading my Soviet Rockets to use with this. It is required to launch all of these probes and you need it to use the craft files.

This is a salyut mod for the DOS & OPS style stations. It contains fully functional replicas of Salyut 1, 4, 6 and 7. It also now contains Almaz 2, 3 and 5. These can be used interchangeably with the other DOS/OPS stations of the same series although they may have had a different color scheme.

##STOCK Remotetech Support:

##Install instructions:

  • Download and install mod from here

##ALMAZ NOTES:

  • Please use the included craft file as the film capsule is difficult to place and the station requires the Salyut ASAS to function. I hid this inside the station mesh in the craft file.
  • The film capsule has NO SAS OR REACTION WHEELS, as it did in real life. You need to point the entire station so the capsule in facing retrograde before ejecting it. Once ejected fire the retro rockets. When it enters the atmosphere, drag will cause it to turn to face the right way for reentry. You then manually deploy the parachutes. Make sure it lands ON LAND.
  • The station telescope has hullcam support

##NOTES:

  • This mod is no longer compatible with Bobcat of OLDD protons as I have made my own
  • KOSMOS is required for the craft files to load as they contain solar arrays
  • You MUST use the Salyut ASAS to properly control the stations!

salyutstations's Issues

Still Vostok issue

Dear Raidernick!

At the beginning: I'm very glad, that you are back!

And now the issue: after some improvements, mod upgrades etc. I decided to make a complex test for Vostok and Voshod spacecrafts (I used Voshod 2). V2 worked great, every single part. During reentry - no problems.

BUT after that I used Vostok. I reach orbit similar to original Gagarin's one. I reach any different orbit and almost always bad thing happens. Parachute overheats even before plasma shows and it explodes. The only way for it to survive is reentry without decoupling service module (it's indestructible in atmosphere). I think, the problem is in Vostok Parachute part's code, but I can't find it by myself.

Thanks in advance for response ;)

Vostok/Voshod REALLY Deadly Re-entry

Hello!

I've got a serious problem. After many trials of descension (different angles, Pe/Ap etc), I stuck. The advice given here:https://github.com/KSP-RO/SalyutStations-SoyuzFerries/issues/2
did not work. Every time I try to come back, my Jeb Gagarin dies.

My version of KSP: 1.0.5. Here is my plug list:
plugs

I just want to add, that when I uninstalled DRC, same things happened. Vostok just overheats at height of ~80-75 kms and explodes. Other spacecrafts (ex. Soyuz, Progress etc) behave normally.

Does any solution exsist?

Solar Panel output wrong?

Since Salyut Stations patches itself for RO compatibility (also probably an issue, but a lesser one), I have opened this issue here. Although sources are hard to come by for Soviet Spacecraft, it seems like the power output of many of the solar panels in this pack are incorrect.

The values set right now, and what sources I can find, list suspiciously low power output for the solar panel surface area, compared to other contemporary panels. Even assuming Soviet panels had half the efficiency of US panels, the power output is much lower than it should be. With kerbalism installed, the stations struggle to even match the life support loads kerbalism calculates for them.

I believe the values that have been set (and that are found in english literature) are the average power output of the solar panels, which is roughly half the peak power output, since the stations will spend about half their time in darkness. The Solar panels in Soviet Spacecraft may also have incorrect power generation, but Soyuz has a shorter on-orbit lifetime, so the power shortage is less noticeable.

Oops, wrong page.

Did you leave the Zenit Probe Unfinished? If so, just a reminder to please finish it up (and also update to 1.10).

File is not extractable

When I try and extract the .ZIP file in Windows, I can't. An error message is thrown stating an "unexpected error" occured with code 0x80004005. WinRar states there's an "unknown method" in the file. I suspect the files have somehow been corrupted. And where's the download link in the form thread?! All it does is send me to http://mediafire/ or http://download/ ! Please help!

In Realism Overhaul, the Vostok ends up exploding on reentry back to Earth for no apparent reason

Whenever I try and reenter the Earth's atmosphere, even though it says ablation is taking place, the entire capsule explodes as if there's no ablative shielding at all. I am using Realism Overhaul for 1.0.2 with Deadly Reentry, so either this is a DRE bug that I need to tell the devs of the plugin about, or you've configured it wrong for RO so it treats it as if it's not aerodynamically shielded. Please help, as this is ruining my game.
