Currently these bindings use hard-coded MPICH datatypes (as do mine). OpenMPI datatypes are different and it would be nice to maybe use version(...) to allow for both. Now that https://github.com/DlangScience/OpenMPI seems to be working, it would be nice to have those an an optional dependency. As @John-Colvin is planning to add MPICH support as well those datatypes could be moved over later as well.

The OpenMPI bindings were only updated today, and my holiday is over, but I will try to find some time to get my own bindings to work first (since I can more easily do what I want to them, and test them using my simulation code) and raise a pull request for yours later.

For the future we should probably discuss combining our efforts, as I don't think much can be gained in this situation by having two such similar packages. That being said, I, like you, do not have a lot of time to spend on this, so let's maybe also check at https://gitter.im/DlangScience/ if there is more interest.
