After importing to the timeline, when I blade the clip into 2, the 2nd clip is the same as the 1st clip. It's not the continuation of the video. Why? Extended video selected for Gamma for generating.
George Elias writes:
Using it, and feature would be a quick copy/paste from one BRAW file to another.
The usual copy effects doesn’t work between BRAW files because they’re referencing different clips.
Yeah. Just as it is in the import toolbox itself
It’s about editing the gamma controls to edit the raw files directly.
I apply the LUT last in the pipeline, but use the custom gamma controls to get a desired baseline before using the wheels/curves.
Probably add a "Global Pasteboard" button to the Final Cut Pro Inspector which does a popup (same as "Global Settings") - and have 5 pasteboard buffers to copy/paste from/to.
I might be doing something wrong here, but the Decode Quality does not seem to effect anything? I just tested with one of my 6k clips from my bmpcc6k, and ringing through Toolbox, I have set the Decode Quality option to Full, and UltraHD (in two different tests. Then after importing it into FCP and using it in a 4k timeline, the playback quality does not look like the 6k resolution at all. It seems to be playing back at 1080p max, or even worse? Exporting the project in 4k also shows the same blurry result.
In FCP inspector, both the compound clip and the video clip within shows the correct 6134*3456 resolution, but again, it does not look like that in the viewer or exporting.
Vigneswaran Rajkumar writes:
If the clip has no audio files, the tool still asks for audio file folder. Maybe there is a check box to ignore audio?
When i place automatic speed on any braw clip in a project and then adjust the speed the video becomes a freeze frame and breaks the braw clip.
See attached Screen recording, the progress bar disappears when hitting "play", then reappears when playback stops.
Daniel Horvath reports:
2nd small issue w playback. When I switch clips to playback the 'play' button doesn't show up. So I have to 'play' with the 'stop' then stop and the play button shows up.
@JW144754 writes:
Also a question on a separate topic, what is the proper workflow if I want work in HDR in FCP? Is that supported?
To be honest... I have no idea. I don't really know enough about HDR workflows in Final Cut Pro and Motion to know how things should work. Maybe @markspen has some insight?
If it's not working as expected, you could try and open up the BRAW Toolbox Motion Template and tick "Wide Gamut HDR" Color Processing for the Project?
All of the actual "image processing" is done using the BRAW SDK - so it's entirely possible that it already supports HDR out of the box - I'm just not knowledgeable enough in this area to give a definite answer, sorry!

The ONE TOOL I’d love if you haven’t implemented it already is a one button XML transfer for Sony & BRAW files.
Like your Sony Timecode Tool, but it properly facilitates the reconnect between all footage in the timeline.
So that you can send BRAW and Sony clips easily to Resolve.
sorry solved ( i can't delete it)

- the ability to multi select clips for adjustments, I know there is the “copy/paste checked” function, but just highlighting the clips and doing batch settings would be much easier.
you could do something like this…
… after selecting multiple clips
For the custom values (gamma, differing iso’s etc) you coould just have the “multiple values” thing (like the red circle in my screenshot)
It could be that I’m thinking “wrong”, but for me & my workflow, the things I would do is as follows (and actually tried when I first opened the plugin before actually reading anyting 😂)
- Import
- Select all the clips with common values I want to change
- Change all to that value(s) - color science/space/gamma etc
- Then choose the individual clips for fine tuning
You could also give the ability to change all the “multiple value…” items to the same - just in case things where recorded “wrong” in camera.

Would it be possible to Cmd click or Shift click multiple clips in the toolbox so they can be removed? Could the Delete key be used to Remove Clips from the toolbox?
After opening the synchronized clip, the video inspector shows all the BRAW controls.
After clicking "Refresh Metadata" I was able to change Exposure, Color Temp, and Tint; however I could not change ISO (drop down menu appears but no matter what I select, it stays at 100), or any other parameters either like gamma and gamut cannot be changed.

Quick bug report. If I change Color Temp on a clip, then check the box next to it, and press Reset Checked Items, it doesn't reset.
Reset Selected Clip does work, though I'm not sure you need the extra confirmation dialog that it was successful?
Iain Anderson writes:
One more minor bug: when you activate Blackmagic Design Custom, the Custom Gamma Controls are activated, but the checkboxes next to those controls are not activated until you click onto another clip and then click back.
Steve @ Ripple Training writes via TestFlight:
Black Thumbnails appear in FCP whenever I drag that library-thingy into the Library. I have to quit FCP and restart in order for the video to appear and the toolbox to load.
I can't reproduce this on my machine MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021, Apple M1 Max, 64 GB RAM) - however, I wonder if changing form Filmstrip mode to List Mode or adjusting the duration slider in Filmstrip mode will kick FCPX back into gear?
We don't actually have any control over thumbnail creation - it's all handled by FCPX. We simply just render frames, with no knowledge of what they are or where they're from.
Really minor thing, but when you use Import BRAW Files, the last clip imported is selected and appears in the window, not the first. The last clip is likely way off the screen. It would be nice if the first clip were selected.

It's clear there's a button to "Import BRAW Files", but wonder if it's possible to add drag-drop functionality to this list, so users can drag a selection of BRAW files from the Finder here without hopping into a Finder browser window. I find myself dragging/dropping and realizing I need to hop through that button/finder workflow. Muscle memory and all.
Chris Gosling writes via FB Messenger:
The one thing you might also want to look at (don’t know if it can be done) is the choose audio folder. From what I can see, is that if you start a new library it remembers your last audio location. I don’t know if you can set up logic so that prompts/remembers different locatons for different libraries.
You can get the URL of a library via:
George Elias writes:
NOT AT ALL NECESSARY… but can we change the default name of the event created in FCP?
Vigneswaran Rajkumar suggests:
There should be a button somewhere to open your user guide?
Occasionally I will get green or blue frames during playback or scrubbing. Playback performance is choppy as well in FCP, but the same clips perform well in Da Vinci Resolve 18.2 on same computer. Will test on M1 MacBook Pro.
Final Cut Pro 10.6.5
2013 Mac Po 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5
macOS Monterey version 12.6.2
As the only place I can see the clips is in the toolbox the software needs to have the ability to work more like the Finder. I would really like to have a right-click real in Finder function. I have about a 50 clips in the toolbox. I'm going through them an selecting to import what I need and what I can dump from the system.

For some weird reason it seems to stall on the "Preparing BRAW Files" alert on Intel Machines.
Investigating now.
I have not quite found out the cause yet, but the preview window, as well the timeline preview goes black sometimes? In the screen recording attached it is showing black, but in a previous test it was fine. Relaunching FCP, refresh metadata does not help either.

It runs and I get a narrow window with a long string of text. The window doesn't scroll so I can;'t get to the bottom of it. Have to force quit. The extension is still installed.
Currently the Uninstall Tool is just a basic AppleScript application, however, it seems that even though it's not sandboxed, it won't work correctly on macOS Ventura. I'll need to create a "proper" Objective-C application that takes into account sandboxing I think.
Chris, can you sum up the workflow with BRAW Toolbox and FCP?
If there is documentation, please point me to it.
I'm scratching my head right now
Thx

- a “don’t show again” check box after the fist few times used for your dialog boxes would be fantastic, both the “copy/paste” and the “succesfully processed” are driving me crazy.
First time import observations (may not be bugs)
My specific-use case is to be able to import BRAW video clips, create multicam clips with them, and transcode them for a proxy workflow until being ready to switch back to camera original clips, though I realize that transcoding is an entirely different process than BRAW Toolbox was designed for. If I can reveal in browser and finder, that would help.
If you resize the Workflow Extension, the Viewer will get bigger too.
I am not sure if I am doing this wrong again, but mine is not doing that. The bottom part get bigger, but not the viewer. I do > not believe there is anywhere for me to drag to resize the viewer either?

Marco Iorio writes via TestFlight:
If I blade a clip in the storyline and then delete the bladed clip, audio is ok, but video is out of sync and it plays back "something" which is not the remnant of the bladed clip.
I'm ASSUMING Marco is actually blading the clip WITHIN the synchronised clip, but if he's not, and he's blading the synchronised clip within a project, then it's most likely a maths bug.
Iain Anderson writes:
A check all button would help.
If no check boxes are selected, the "Uncheck All" button should become a "Check All" button.

Hello Chris. One of the things I was particularly hopeful for is just bringing in Braw video that I can use in a proxy/original workflow and allow FCP or Sync-N-Link to do my syncing using XML. A large part of this equation is being able to relink clips as needed, but BRAW Toolbox imports are don't allow me access to FCP's native reveal in browser, reveal, in finder, and relinking capabilities.
My proxies were already made using Premiere Pro and migrating the project to FCP, I wanted to link those proxies to their original counterpart using BRAW Toolbox and in the end send to Resolve for color. Would these capabilities be possible in a future update? I know this is a beta. As it stands I am unable to use BRAW Toolbox imports both due to playback and scrubbing performance issues (on an Intel Mac) and no access to FCP's native clip management features.
Thank you for all of your hard work.
There doesn't seem to be a way to remove a single cli (or selected clips) from the list before ingesting/processing. You can clear all the files, but if you add a file by accident in a list of others, you can't remove it and you have to clear the list and select the correct ones. It would be great if the delete key would remove any selected clips from the list, or if there was a button below to "Clear Selected Clips" that became available when you selected clips in the list.
@tangierc writes:
One potential enhancement could be to have a status bar or some other visual to represent the "Prepare BRAW Files" process. I only knew that activity was happening by watching the lights flashing on my RAID and hearing the drives working.
My "Motion Templates.localized" folder is an alias to an iCloud folder of the same name - this means I can automatically share my motion templates between machines without having to install individually, and it's always worked perfectly.
...except that unfortunately the BRAW Toolbox installer throws up an error saying the Motion Templates folder is not writeable. I presume this is because of the alias.

Typically When I shoot braw I have an onboard mic, Sanken CS1, on one channel and the seond channel is built in camera mono. I notice when using braw toolbox the resulting imported file in X seems to not have 2 individual channels. Typically I would deselect the built in camera mic in the inspector if this was a pro res file , but can’t seem to do this with an imported braw file. Is there something I am missing about separating the audio channels with an imported Braw clip?

I would love an option to bring the BRAW clips in as Compound Clips with the audio instead of Synced clips. This would allow for changes to ripple through to the edit/timeline if a change needed to be made to audio patching, processing and color tweaks by opening up the CC and making the change. The way Synced clips work, you can't make a global change to a clip inside that Synced clip timeline—they are all individual copies unless you happen to make this change in the browser before editing the clip. Otherwise you'd have to do a ton of match and replace all your edits with the updated clip in the browser.

Two quality of life notes:
Any chance you can add a counter/check mark next to a processed file for the importer? I was importing a 1/2TB file (left the camera running interviewing my grandpa) and it would be nice to know the software isn’t frozen.
It says “Processing” but I have no context as to what file is causing the issue
George Elias writes:
A little counter saying how many clips are loaded up would be helpful
If you remove a clip from the toolbox, could the next clip be automatically selected, the way the Finder works?
