js-rails-as-api-custom-json-rendering-using-rails's Issues

Suggested Edit: Show students how to use `only` and `except` in the `show` action

This lesson is really good, but I noticed that something was missing.

The lesson covers (among other things) how to use the only and except options when rendering JSON from the index action. It also shows a few ways to include only specific attributes when rendering JSON from the show action. However, it does not show how to use only and except in the show action.

After doing some research and trial-and-error, I found that you can use the only option like this:

render json: bird, only: [:id, :name, :species]

And the except option like this:

render json: bird, except: [:created_at, :updated_at]

Both of these lines of code will convert the bird instance to JSON, but without the created_at and updated_at keys.

Thanks as always for looking into this! I'll go ahead and open a PR for it.
