youtube-mouseover-preview's Introduction

YouTube - Mouseover Preview

Uses YouTube's storyboard to show preview images when hovering a video's thumbnail. Hold shift while clicking to jump to the time shown in the preview image.

Installation

You need to have a UserScript extension (e.g. Tampermonkey for Chrome, Greasemonkey for Firefox) installed to run this script.

Install this UserScript

YouTube's inline playback feature interferes with this script. To disable this feature go to Settings > Playback and performance and disable Inline playback.

These two scripts really helped me find my way around YouTube's storyboard feature:

youtube-mouseover-preview's Issues

Nice job man.

And, after looking at some of your other projects, I am impressed by a lot it. Just wanted to say that.

[Suggestion] Twitch Compatibility?

First of all thank you very much for making this script! It's super handy, specially with that Shift shortcut.

I was wondering if Twitch run their thumbnails in a similar way as Youtube's "Storyboard". Maybe adding such compatibility is a few lines of code away?

Broken since October 2018

YouTube seems to have updated sometime during October 2018; causing this script's mouseover previews to break and no longer load. They all just get stuck on "Loading Storyboard...", now.

The "No Storyboard. :(" message still works for streams that haven't aired yet, though.

Works incorrectly at Youtube's Home page, but I found a quick solution ๐Ÿ‘

The add-on works for 1 second and then gets interrupted by youtube's built-in inline playback, but I found out that you can actually disable it by going to Settings > Playback and performance.

Not really an add-on issue but wanted to leave this tip here in case anyone was unaware of this option. Maybe mention this in the readme.md ?

Broken again

The solution only worked for a week :-(

Can you fix it?

Thank you
