mousefollowsfocus's Issues

[Feature Request] Restore the previous position inside the window while switching back to it instead of the window center

[Feature Request] Restore the previous position inside the window while switching back to it instead of the window center

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Activate the Mouse Follows Focus extension if it wasn't yet
  2. Open at least two applications with windows in diverse positions on the screen
  3. Move the mouse to any position over the currently focused window that isn't the window center
  4. Switch to another application/window using the Alt+Tab or Super+Tab combination
  5. Switch back to the previous application/window using the Alt+Tab or Super+Tab combination again
  6. Notice that the mouse is placed at the window center instead of the previous position.

Advantages

  1. Moving the mouse with the focus helps a lot, but it could be even better
  2. Pretty probably the window center isn't the position where the mouse will be used
  3. The widgets that will most probably be used are in the top (menu, toolbar) or side (sidebars, scrollbar) position
  4. Probably the next click will be nearer to the last position than from the window center

Feature Request

  • Remember the position of the mouse pointer when a window is about to lose the focus
  • Restore the position back when the windows regain the focus
  • Optionally add a setting for the user to choose the preferred behavior:
    • Last position in the window
    • Window center
    • Title bar
    • On [XX] pixels from [top/left/right/bottom]

Thanks for the wonderful extension!

[Feature request] Temporarily deactivate when switching between workspaces

I had configured Dash to Panel to switch workspace on hover and scroll. With Mouse follow focus installed it became awkward that pointer location changes when trying to switch workspaces continuously.

So I suggest that you add:

  • an inactive period on current workspace changes. when workspace change is detected, starts the timer and deactivates the extension functionality temporarily
  • reactivation on timer ends, this certain amount of time should be roughly equals to the animation time
  • if another workspace change is detected during this period, reset the timer (so that continuous switching works)
  • If the duration could be made configurable through UI then it would be better

Gnome 46 support

Do not expect much porting work to be needed, but this extension is shown to be incompatible with the recently released Gnome 46.

Thanks for the great extension, btw!

Breaks wl-copy/wl-paste

wl-clipoard uses an ugly hack (it maps a transparent toplevel window to steal the focus and fetch the clipboard). When having this extension activated, wl-copy and wl-paste don't work anymore at all and the GNOME session also breaks (the overview randomly opens up after the usage of wl-copy/wl-paste, together with a ton of allocation errors logged).
