d2xl-cios's Issues

Issues with USB Loaders (works fine on standard Wii cIOS)

I know some of this has been mentioned before, but I wanted to list what I have encountered in one place.

-USB Loader GX Malfunctions

  • "Return to" Option to boot HBC or another channel upon using the system menu to quit a game reboots the entire system.
  • Using a forwarder channel to directly boot USB Loader GX causes loaded games to display black screen + white text error messages requiring reboot
    • Block IOS reload function apparently not working
-Games with multiple DOL files universally do not work as intended and end up locking the system, requiring hard reset. Using the Block IOS Reload function is typically the solution to this error.
Some of the games are as follows:
-Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition (NTSC - U)
-Black screen freeze upon selecting a classic game
-Metroid Prime Trilogy (NTSC - U)
-Black screen freeze upon selecting any of the 3 games
      -Call of Duty 3
-Black screen freeze upon starting a new game
      -Zelda Skyward Sword
      - Black screen freeze after wii motion+ calibration
      - (Returns to wiiFlow immediately upon launch when using that launcher)
-A handful of other games freeze up as well. such as Worms Battle Island and Monster Hunter Tri. A commonality between all of the titles is that the proposed fixes online are to disable ios reload, or to use a cIOS base of 56 to get them working. It is also mentioned in various threads across reddit, gbatemp, that using the alternate DOL method to boot into specific parts of games should not be necessary with modern dx2 cIOS, so these problems at present seem to be unique to the Wii Mini's cIOS.

It should be noted that the freezing issues are also present when using other loaders (wiiflow and CFG launcher). However, with WiiFlow, the forwarder channel is fully functional, as is the "return to" option allowing wiiflow to be relaunched automatically upon quitting a game.

I would assume that having a Mini compatible base 56 cIOS would solve many of these problems, though I'm not certain if the issue runs deeper, considering some of the issues mentioned above, like the Block IOS reload function not working.

If I encounter any other bugs, or specific games that have issues, I will add them here.

Thank you very much for the work you've done.

"IOS Reload Block" function not work

Hello :

I just wanted to ask, is the "IOS Reload Block" function activated in the cIOS d2xl for the wii mini?

I ask this because some games that benefit from this function do not work. Like for example the Metal Slug 6 of the Metal Slug Anthology

Or "IOS Reload Block" does not work because the loaders (USB Loader GX, Wii Flow, Etc) are not able to enable it in this cIOS ?.

If this function is not enabled in cIOS d2xl, could you enable it?

Or will we have to wait for the loaders to update so that they are able to activate it?

Thank you

PS: Sorry for using the google translator, my English is very bad
PS2: Sorry if this is not the place for this question, try posting this on the "wii-homebrew.com" forum in the "Installing Homebrew on the Wii Mini" tutorial, but I still don't have enough privileges for it.

cios group base count not updated to account for addition of Wii IOS59

Line 3 of data/ciosciosmaps.xml should be updated for the appropriate amount of base options (i.e. 16).

Before:
<ciosgroup name="d2xl-v${MAJOR_VER}-${MINOR_VER}" version="${IOS_REV}" basescount="15">

After:
<ciosgroup name="d2xl-v${MAJOR_VER}-${MINOR_VER}" version="${IOS_REV}" basescount="16">

Functionality does not match d2x-v10-beta53-alt

I have a USB hard drive (Seagate model) and a USB flash drive (Sandisk model), both work perfectly on my RVL-001 running d2x-v10-beta53-alt. I can load any Wii game from USB Loader GX with no issues. However when trying both devices on my Wii Mini running d2xl, the behaviour was inconsistent.

For both devices I encountered the "IOS Reload Block" issue. Skyward Sword would also get stuck on a black screen when loaded on both (does Skyward Sword use IOS Reload Block?). Otherwise the hard drive worked pretty much the same as on RVL-001.

The flash drive only worked intermittently. Most of the Wii games I tried to load worked fine, others would freeze USB Loader GX before even loading, like Super Mario Galaxy 2. Sometimes updating USB Loader GX settings would cause the buttons to become unresponsive (as if it froze trying to save the updates), forcing you to hard shut down the console. One problem I could reproduce consistently was copying a save from the console to the flash drive using SaveGame Manager GX. On the RVL-001 I could copy saves all day and never encounter any problems, while on the Mini it failed every time (SaveGame Manager GX would just spin endlessly when trying to copy over the save).

I understand that flash drives compatibility can be inconsistent, but it seems to me that a flash drive that works perfectly fine on d2x-v10-beta53-alt should behave the same on d2xl.

I would gladly provide more technical details with some guidance.

Unable to reinstall d2x-v10-b52mini via d2x-cios-installer after install a Wii IOS

Fixed

Hey

hopping I can get help here

I made the silly mistake of installing a Wii's "IOS58 v6175" on a Wii Mini, homebrew and d2x-cios-installer (using Priiloader) started freezing, someone advised me to do a format to bring it back to normal, done that, lost the HB channel but Wii mini still freezing when I try to do launch d2x-cios-installer at the "press any button" screen, Wii Mote just doesn't work and a keyboard doesn't do anything at that screen

I noticed an app like "IOS58" does let me use the Wiimote though, is there an app that can install HB and maybe run d2x-cios-installer again without using IOS58?

From what I understand the Wii Mini will freeze because it thinks there needs to be a WiFi adapter, if I can get an app to work outside IOS58, and reinstall the correct IOS58, I believe this might fix my issue

I googled everywhere but not many ppl mod the Wii Mini it seems

Update

Installing IOS58-v32032.wad using a WAD manager like 1.7 or Pimp my Wii(the one I used as it could switch between IOS), fixed the issue

I loaded into Priiloader using my keyboard & holding esc, launched the app from Priiloader

Pimp my Wii is not recommended but when it's offline & you avoid letting it automatically patch things, it's wad option is decent actually as it lets you try to load into an IOS & see if it works then switch to another without having to redo the process

I loaded into IOS28 to install the wads vis USB FAT32 flash drive, installed the correct IOS58 for the Wii mini (IOS58-v32032) & then everything worked from there

Support USB hub like stock IOS58

Would it be possible to implement support for USB hubs in the same way that stock IOS58 does? It's not that important on a regular Wii, but with the Wii Mini only having one USB port it would be convenient to be able to run games from USB while also being connected to an ethernet adapter. This would allow us to play backup games online on a Mini.
