This code only works for gray color characters on white backgrounds. Is it possible to make it work for black characters on white background which is usually the case?

Current scikit-image version has threshold_otsu in skimage.filters - not in skimage.filter.
To run the code I changed from skimage.filter import threshold_otsu to from skimage.filters import threshold_otsu.
