Adding Filters to new tiles in application Dashboards (read full issue + discuss)

Thinking through the appropriate experience for adding new tiles to a Dashboard.

When adding a new tile and editing filters, you have the ability to add any filter from the LookML dashboard. This includes filters that are not actually present as global filters in the application dashboard:

There are a few issues with this.

  1. The end-user won't have any idea that they need to apply "Date Period Latest" to their new tile, so it will be difficult to enforce that behavior.
  2. The user may try to apply more filters than are needed, or will NOT have the ability to add all the filters that they want if they're exploring from the wrong Explore view. For example, if I Explore from "Ad Impressions", I won't be able to filter on "Campaign", which is something I might want. I can see this causing a lot of confusion.

For #1, I don't know how to solve for this right now. We could add something simple to the UI or try to hack some way to ensure that if one filter is selected, the other filter must be selected as well.

We can solve for #2 by making sure that Users can only expose Explores that have all the appropriate filter values (for marketing, this means only exposing the "Cross Channel Reporting" Explore, since all tiles contain all of the global filter values).

Still thinking through this but I feel like this is one of a nuance of our functionality that could end up causing a lot of confusion or frustration from a true Hound user. Maybe im overstressing though.
