Should this still function?

Hi! I have no experience in Node/NPM and little experience in anything web related in general. I was wondering if this should still work with the latest version of Node. I have tried, based on some surface level research, to get it to work but can't seem to figure it out. If you wouldn't mind I'd really appreciate a quick one on one conversation on how this works. If it isn't up to date I could always try to write my own in a language I'm more familiar with.
