awesome-remote-job's Issues

Distinguish between contractor and full-time jobs

I find that job search can be deeply different, depending on the job being full or part time. Most sites for remote jobs just assume that one is going to look for a full time position. If i am looking for a remote job as a contractor on Angelist, for example, it will be easier for me to get relevant results selecting "contractor" first, and then checking for "remote ok", rather than the other way around.

Did you have a similar experience? Do you think that it makes sense to split the job section between "contractor" and "full time"?

DataStax is not a consulting company, it is a software company

DataStax delivers Apache Cassandra™ in a database platform that meets the performance and availability demands of Internet-of-things (IoT), Web, and Mobile applications. It gives enterprises a secure, fast, always-on database that remains operationally simple when scaled in a single datacenter or across multiple datacenters and clouds.

README structure - companies

How to structure companies list? There is an example of a company that doesn't have a career page #61

I decided to link to careers page since there is a place where remote work is described.

Add remotejobsdesk.com

Remote Jobs DESK is also an awesome platform for remote jobs, where you can find remote jobs according to your country or anywhere else. Here is a link to this remote platform.

Disallow self-posts

I don't think that you can judge objectively whether your own app or site is awesome. We get a lot of self posts, and I feel weird merging them. I want to add a line to the contribute saying don't self-post your own product. What do you think, @lukasz-madon?

Add https://github.com/remote-es/remotes

Hi,

We keep a list of companies offering remote jobs in Spain (so Spanish people can work there with a full-time contract; working for foreign companies remotely has significant issues) at:

https://github.com/remote-es/remotes

I'm not entirely sure which category should this be added to- or even if it fits the repo. If you give me some pointers I can send a PR.

Cheers,

Álex

Nonprofit Remote - violates contributing rule 1

Nonprofit Remote - A place where remote workers, volunteers, and nonprofits connect.

This link has a majority, if not all, jobs hidden behind a $7/month paywall requring sign-in. This validates the first contributing rule. Please consider removing.

"""

  1. Job boards should be high quality, without paywalls, requiring login, etc.

Co-maintainer?

Hey Lukasz; tried your email from your GitHub profile, and it bounced. There's a few open PRs - do you need help maintaining this list?

Website [react-jobs] Unavailable (Error 1014)

Description:

The website is currently experiencing technical issues, as it consistently returns Error 1014 when accessed. This error prevents users from accessing the site's content, rendering it effectively unavailable.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Attempt to access the website via its URL.
  2. Observe the Error 1014 message displayed.

Expected Behavior:
The website should be accessible without encountering Error 1014, allowing users to navigate its content seamlessly.

Impact:

  • Users are unable to access the website, leading to a loss of traffic and potential engagement.
  • The reputation of the website may be negatively affected due to prolonged unavailability.

Proposed Resolution:

  • Investigate the root cause of Error 1014 to identify any underlying issues.
  • Implement necessary fixes to restore the website's functionality.
  • Conduct thorough testing to ensure the issue has been resolved successfully.
  • Communicate updates regarding the website's status to users and stakeholders.

Additional Information:

  • Error 1014 typically indicates a connectivity issue or configuration problem with the website's hosting service.
  • It is essential to address this issue promptly to minimize disruption to users and maintain the website's integrity.

Provide a section about taxation

It is a very complicate subject especially if you don't spend 183+ days in the same country. As such it would be good to have guidelines on where and how to pay taxes.

remote preferred location

maybe it is better to also cite the preferred location for the applicant. for example:

  • Company Name (Portland)
  • Acme Company (UTC -5)
  • Foo (Europe)
  • Bar (Anywhere)

Can't identify international positions

There should be a way to differentiate if a job is remote within a country or remote internationally. I propose globally defining flags for those and adding the flags next to each company name. The other option is to allow only international jobs. Thoughts?

Add restriction to Contributing Guide

I find it really tough to review submissions from people who work at, or who have made their product. I'd like to limit contributions to everything except for the "Remote DNA" section to people who haven't written the link they're submitting. I think it'll make reviews easier, and submissions more awesome.

We all love what we have made, and it's hard to tell a maker that you don't think their idea is awesome (whatever awesome means). I think it's important to have discretion, though, or else this list isn't useful.

Thoughts?

Jobs in json format

When building jobs scraper http://lukasz-madon.github.io/awesome-remote-job/ an idea came to my mind.

Building scraper is a daunting task. They will break quite often and they are slow. The solution to this is structured data. Json is great format for remote job offers: There are quite a few benefits:

Companies and Countries

The part of the Companies with "remote DNA" should sort according to different countries. Yes, it is remote, but it is also a part for the law and contracts to search for a company in different countries.

What do you think, is it helpful?
