gnome-shell-extension-zenbook-duo's Issues

New eog version does not install additional files

It seems like after automatically having the extension updated to the eog version, the installation step is not triggered (presumably because the extension was already considered installed previously), but this seems to break the functionality of the extension, as it is unable to located required files (e.g. /usr/local/bin/screenpad-$USER). Or at least I think that's what happened?

Attached are the journal logs I could find, this is after attempting to press the disable secondary screen button and adjusting the brightness (neither of which actually worked, of course):

Submit to ego?

Do you think there would be anything preventing you from having the extension submitted to and published on the GNOME extensions site? It might make it even nicer for people if they can just enable it from the site, rather than having to build it themselves. Of course it still requires the kernel module, so it won't be a total breeze, but it'll be a little more convenient, and perhaps having the added exposure would help more people discover that this extension is actually available too.

Gnome 43

The extension doesn't seem to work after gnome updated from 42 -> 43.

I tried changing the manifest to enable 43 to see if it would still work, but it didn't.

I meant to open this issue when i had more context around the errors that were happening but it was a week or so ago and only getting to opening the issue now, sorry.

I hope I can run some tests again to get more data.

Brightness not working on Fedora 37 (38beta)

Extension does not set ScreenPad brightness on Fedora 37.

I am using fork mjollnir14/gnome-shell-extension-zenbook-duo since Gnome 43 PR #11 is still not merged.

After login, Extension is showing enabled in ExtensionManager. If I disable it, it shows error this._brightnessSlider is undefined and cannot be re-enabled (until next login).

journalctl /usr/bin/gnome-shell -f -o cat shows Error: Failed to add keybinding: 'Tools'

Calling /usr/local/bin/screenpad-$USER set 10 is working, brightness of screenpad changes (But I still had to call sudo ./installer.sh --prefix /usr --suffix $USER --extension-path ../ install manually after extension setup, it is not running automatically (as already mentioned in Issue #5)

Screenshot key is not woking too (error Failed to execute child process "gnome-screenshot" (No such file or directory)

Tested on
6.1.15-200 (Fedora 38beta)
6.1.18-200 (Fedora 37, Gnome 43.3)
6.2.2-200

Screenshots don't work

Originally posted by @jibsaramnim in PR #2:

I tried out your updated version with new settings UI, it's so nice to see! Unfortunately I had no luck getting the screenshot options to work other than the interactive one. I am not sure if this is an issue specific to my setup though, as running gnome-terminal directly also throws errors. Do you happen to know if this is perhaps currently not working under Wayland? I can make screenshots just fine using the interactive mode, at least.

[FR] Make it work without AUR/custom kernel modules

Before I managed to get the asus-wmi-screenpad-dkms module installed, I got acpi_call-dkms installed from pamac. Turns out the ACPI calls that need to be made are super simple...

In Manjaro 22's Linux 5.15 echo '\_SB.ATKD.WMNB 0x0 0x53564544 b3200050069000000' | sudo tee /proc/acpi/call sets the brightness to 0x69.

So what's the benefit of using yay -S asus-wmi-screenpad-dkms-git instead?

Apparently it will break in Linux 5.18... hooray Plippo/asus-wmi-screenpad#39

Update: I had to update to 5.19 and it's been SOOOO much better. No crashes, vs 10 crashes a day and GPU/sleep bugs with 5.15. I installed linux519-acpi_call and started doing calls manually... still don't know the call for turning off the display.

Works on UX4802Z

Hi,

I got it working on UX4802Z. So, I guess you can add it to your list of confirmed working models on Ubuntu 22.04 with kernel 5.15.
