resettoolwindows's Introduction

Reset Tool Windows

Build status

Download the extension at the Visual Studio Marketplace or try the CI build.

Collapse all tool windows except the ones you really need visible and gain 10-33% faster Visual Studio startup times and a fresh starting point every day.

Select which of the known high-performance tool windows to leave docked when all others will auto-hide.

Choose between:

  • Command Window
  • Error List
  • Output Window
  • Solution Explorer
  • Task List
  • Toolbox

Additionally, if there is another window or two you really want to stay visible then you can accept the potential performance hit and use the custom Window Captions List to specify these.

The fewer tool windows docked on startup, the better the performance. So, if all tool windows were un-docked (collapsed), you got zero negative performance impact from tool windows.

resettoolwindows's Issues

Pinned tool windows are reordered, could this extension prevent it?

There might be an option for this but, well, I cannot find it.

Whenever a tool window is pinned and then unpinned, it is placed last.

This is a pain because it upsets the expected order. For instance, I prefer to keep the "solution explorer" the topmost on the left and this is a tool window that often gets (un)pinned, ending up at the bottom of all others.

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks again, as always.

Error with CascadePackage when starting VS 2019

Immediately after installing the extension I began getting an error message with "CascadePackage" every time I start VS 2019 (version 16.3.5).

In my activitylog.xml I found these entries:
