I have magit-status bound to F12. Which lets me return to magit-status from any magit-* buffer that corresponds to it.
(global-set-key (kbd "<f12>") 'magit-status)
You could also use 'q', (quit-window &optional KILL WINDOW). Which for me simply bury's the magit-log or magit-diff and shows the most recent buffer, which in most cases for me is magit-status.

Yeah, thanks. Adding a keybinding would be smart. Maybe just "delete"
I guess this problem wouldn't have come up at all if a keybinding was built into the mode, though. I'm just saying
