Thanks for reporting your problem, but I can't reproduce this. In the counter_culture spec, I changed it to do just that. Check the changes here:

And this works exactly as it should. Are you sure this isn't being caused by something else? Do you have something in the models overriding the callbacks or something? This sounds really strange. Can you provide a minimal test case with full code for this that reproduces this? If so, please reopen. Thanks.

I found this page because I was using DatabaseCleaner.strategy = :transaction
and counter_culture delays its writes until after the commit. I just needed to switch to truncation for the test.
