shoptrac-frontend's Introduction

Shoptrac

Shoptrac is a simple web application designed to track my costs of living by registering the total price spent whenever I went to the grocery store, or any other store I want to keep tabs on.

It consists of a backend application (https://github.com/mandrakey/shoptrac-backend) and a corresponding Vue.js frontend (this repository).

The fronted application is built using the following technology:

  • Vue.js 2

  • Vue-Cli for building

I have not yet gotten around to update or rewrite it to use Vue.js 3 and Vite, but that is still something on my list for some day.

Install

The software is not officially provided with any package managers as far as I know, and there are no plans for me to do this. If you want to try Shoptrac for yourself, you will have to build the applications yourself.

To build the backend application, download a copy of the repository. After, you go npm install to download dependencies, after which you cann either npm run serve the application on the development server, or npm run build it to package a distributable to put on a server.

To work, you either run the application in development mode (which uses a mock API with pre-set values, see api/mock/data), or in live mode, which required a backend service running. To choose between the two, you use .env-files; dist files with stubs are provided as .env.development.dist and .env.production.dist. Basically, you can configure two calues here:

VUE_APP_API_CLIENT

This value determines whether to use the mock API or a live one. The corresponding values are mock and live.

VUE_APP_API_URL

If using a real API, this contains the base url to reach it, without trailing slash. Something like https://my.domain.com/shoptrac-api.

Maintainers

As this is a private project, created mostly for my personal benefit (and for fun, being able to use something else than Java and PostgreSQL for a change), it is really only maintained when I feel I need to change it, and when my spare time allows it. Feel free to create tickets, but I don’t give any guarantee I’ll even look at them in a timely fashion.
