pielauncher's Issues

Can't use Telegram FOSS with Pie Launcher.

It's just possible to open it if someone send me a message and I click it from the message window, but I can't access Telegram FOSS from both menus, it does nothing.

[Feature Request] Columns customization

App icons and place left for app title may be too small or too large depending on display size.

The settings page could be accesible via pinch on main screen or an item in app drawer.

Also there could be a credits page๐Ÿ˜„

[FEATURE REQUEST] Sub Pie menu?

I came across a post in r/unixporn..
I know this is not android but is it possible to create sub pie menu like the first seconds of that video.
It would be great feature to pie Launcher.
Thanks in Advance

PieLauncher as accessibility app

I was wondering is it is possible for PieLauncher to be used as an accessibility app (for example for quick shortcuts).

It would be possible to use android built-in accessibility gestures (shown below) to launch pielauncher and than using it quickly open one of preselected apps.

KISS Launcher already implements accessibility features, so I was wondering if it would be possible to add them here too.

Add option to disable search functionality.

I would like to see this option in the settings page. Either to disable search completely or to keep the search bar at the top and only open the keyboard if the user presses on the search bar.

Feature Request: Persistent Trigger

It would be great to have a persistent trigger on the edge of the screen that could trigger the pie menu regardless nof what is on screen.

App shortcuts

Thank you so much for making this launcher! I love how easy and simple it is to use!

My only problem with the app is that I can't add shortcuts or PWAs to my homescreen. Is there any chance this could be added to your roadmap?

Thank you!

Lock the layout

Must needed, because I accidentally holded the apps in drawer that were already placed in pie & completely changed the locations. This also disrupts the directions & rotates the pie that I've set up.

Layout lock idea is to avoid drag & drops inside drawer. This lock toggle should be enabled/disabled from configuration.

PS

Locking the layout might increase steps to re-edit the pie but very useful for those who setup the pie once & for all.

Launcher only showing two apps in full list, or one in launcher

My app (OpenHub from F-Droid) won't allow me to show images, but it's basically the title. Right now it's three in the launcher, not sure why. It only went away after I cleared data but it went back an hour later.

Update a few hours later: the apps keep changing every thirty minutes, i.e adding or removing. Also, I have to search for apps via the settings app. Any idea what this could be? I'm on Android 12, Galaxy s10+

Want to add dynamic background

Help me, I can't seem to find the main interface of the application. The layout home seems to be transparent and cannot add dynamic wallpaper. Please tell me where to add the layout of dynamic wallpaper.

Rotating is confusing

I noticed it's possible to rotate the icons during editing, but I keep doing it accidentally instead of on purpose and it's unclear how to do it purposefully.

Maybe it's an idea to instead make the rotation not be drag-based but have a left arrow above the + sign on the edit screen and a right arrow above the checkmark sign to make the rotation feature more obvious and easier to trigger on purpose and harder to trigger accidentally?

Configuration difficult on small screen

On phones with small screens(3.2 inches for me) the configuration of the launcher is difficult. As you can see below the pie menu is obstructing the menu buttons. I see two possible options:

  1. Move the buttons to the bottom.
  2. My preferred option: Some older phones seem to have a menu button instead of an activities button. Mine is one of them and I'd really like it if this project made use of it.

Here is a demonstration of the problem:
screenshot
None of the buttons are easy to hit.

Improve Search-functionality

Not sure what's the issue here but this is what is happening:
There is an app called "F-Droid". I'm trying to search for it.

If I type "fd", i can find it. (Great)
If I type "fdr", it's not found. (Weird)

This seems like a bug to me, and I suggest doing something about it.

Allow PWA shortcuts and alt-profile apps to show up

This launcher is by far my favourite, so I'd like to request the ability to allow PWA shortcuts to show up in the search menu. When I install PWA's from Fennec (Firefox) or WebApps (F-Droid app) it does not appear. Another is my apps in the work profile. (Certain apps require a Google login for work, so I only use those apps in another profile while my main can remain logged out for privacy.) Other launchers I've used were able to implement such features, so I was wondering if this could now? These are my only issues, otherwise, it is an amazing launcher and I couldn't recommend it more. If Markus doesn't want to add these for simplicity, a fork is highly appreciated

Can You Make Custom Icon Pack?

Can you make a custom icons for the Pie Launcher? I hope you see this and make update a soon as posible i like the launcher!

widget page

so this is entirely seperate from the 1x1 app widgets mentioned the other issue, i think there should be an icon ( or perhaps a gesture ? ) that allows you to open a widget page, where widgets are arranged in a vertical list you can scroll through

Shadows for pie menu icons

Have you thought about adding shadows to the pie menu icons?
I think it would look quite good since it would elevate the icons above the wallpaper.

There are also situations were shadows would help substantially with the visibility of the icons.
If someone uses a single color wallpaper and has an app with the same color icon it becomes difficult to see the icon since they blend together.

hide applications

the ability to hide applications that you don't want to show up in the app list would be ideal, the easiest way to implement would probably be to add another square to this page

Option for having several menus

Hello, I just downloaded Pie Launcher, an I already love it !

This is not exactly an issue but a feature suggestion.
I would love having several menus (by menu, I mean the ring of apps) and I have an idea on how it could work:
An horizontal list of "modes" made by the user at the bottom of the home screen. The user would be able to select 1 "mode" and changing the selected mode by touching another. An depending on which mode is selected, the ring menu (sorry, I don't really know how you call it) would show another set of apps !

For exemple, a user could have "modes" like: "work", "play", "watch"...
And this would help to focus on the activity we are doing !

break columns

columns.mp4

good idea add by default 3 or 4 columns ?
this will work like folder and easy visualization.

Scroll down to open notification panel

Would like a custom icon which has the notification icon on it and when selected will open the system notifications.

This will completely eliminate the need for using two fingers (two hands) and also moving up to the notification area to drag it down.

Notification badges

I disabled every kind of notification apart from notification badges, which means that I rely on them to know if and on what app I should check my messages (since I use many different messaging apps). This makes it difficult to use this launcher (which I really like), because notification badges do not appear either in the menu or on the pie itself.

Could support for notification badges be added?

Improve icons

Hi, you've created a very nice launcher!

One thing that was kind of confusing to me was the fact that two icons didn't make a lot of sense. Here's my proposal:

First icon:
Screenshot_20210807-223223_Pie Launcher.jpg

The plus-icon doesn't seem semantically correct. It doesn't send the user to a dedicated add-app-screen as it seems to suggest. Instead, it sends him back to the app-collection.
Therefore, i suggest either using a back-icon or some kind of apps-icon.
This one, the one titled "Apps" seems perfect.

__

Second Icon:
Screenshot_20210807-223250_Pie Launcher.jpg

The ร— is a great choice, but in my opinion the right icon should be displaced. It doesn't delete the app, but instead opens the app-info/settings. Thus, either using a settings-icon or an info-icon would be best.

I think info would be the most clear choice.

The app if used as an assistant app is closed in the background

I have a phone with lineageos 17.1 (android 10) and am currently trying to use pie launcher as an assistant app.

I'm getting along pretty well, the only problem I've encountered is that when I call up the app (even with battery optimization turned off) after a while of not using it I get the "loading" screen and have to wait a few seconds before I can use it.

Is there any way to keep the app constantly active? Maybe adding an option to enable a persistent notification?

Name issue

Play store available on another app with same name.
please fix app name

[Feature Request] User Configured Press/Hold Duration, Double Tap instead of single tap

Accidental presses / brushes launch apps incredibly well in this launcher.

Some suggestions.

Allow the user to configure how long a "tap" needs to last to be considered a tap.

Allow the user to configure how long a "hold" needs to last to be considered a hold.

A slightly longer requirement for holding to register as a hold for the hold & slide selection would be fantastic, as would the capability to opt to use a double tap to open the apps drawer instead of a single tap.

Single tap could then be repurposed to turn the screen off or go back to the last app / open the active windows chooser etc.

Probably not plausible due to how the app functions / gesture limitations but losing the tap screen to turn screen off gesture and the lack of configurability to reduce accidental touch app launches are the primary reasons I can't stick with this launcher in its current iteration.

Largely just providing user feedback, have a wonderful day.
Thank you for taking the time to read.

Work Profile Apps are not Displayed

This launcher looks great, I'm already trying to get used to it ๐Ÿ˜
However, I've spotted one issue - the apps in work profile are not displayed.

Feature Request: Vibration/haptics setting

Would it be possible to add a vibrate option when changing which app is being hovered over? Example: long press to open pie menu, hover over sms app, haptic activates, switch to hovering over web browser, haptic activates. I'd suggest a fairly short length, like how the vibrate works on an on-screen keyboard, but a customizable setting would obviousy be more flexible. Thanks for the great app!

1x1 widget support

Use cases

  • PWAs, at least with Firefox they are implemented by adding a widget to the home screen. This widget is 1x1 and looks like any other app.
  • Utility apps that allow "instant" actions via 1x1 widgets. For example there are apps that allow the user to lock the screen by tapping on the widget.

To discuss (some things I thought about, may be more than the following)

  • Should this be limited to 1x1 widgets?
    • only 1x1 widgets have the same size as normal icons and could seamlessly be shown with them
    • bigger widgets may have multiple function depending on where the user clicked
  • Should the widgets be displayed in the Application list?
    • PWAs: makes sense
    • Utility apps: would be nice
    • Other widgets (like the clock): doesn't really makes sense and may be confusing for users

Make pie configuration screen easier to find

As a new user, it took me quite some time to find the screen where you can configure the app pie. Dragging a random app from the app list on the cancel button seems too hacky to be the only way to get there. Any ideas where to show a settings button?

[feature request] hierarchical pies

Hello,
I really love the idea, but 8 elements in pie is quite limiting for me. I know I can add more but that is not very practical.

Would you consider hierarchical pies as an option?

Also are you against widgets on desktop in general or just haven't implemented it yet?

[feature request] A settings place

can you add a settings list? it can be positioned in the right of the search

it can be very useful to, configure the icon pack, configure hiding apps, configure, the size of the effect, configure the app grid or change it to a list, configure the

PWA Support

This app is amazing and I love the idea behind it. The only thing that is stopping me from using this launcher is the lack of PWA support. I have a few PWA apps that I use regularly and I can't go without them.

Screen doesn't autorotate

Using a Sony Xperia XZ2 running rooted LineageOS 17.1. Pie launcher doesn't let the screen rotate when autorotate is on and phone orientation changes. So if I go to Pie Launcher when screen is portrait, and I try to rotate to landscape, the screen remains portrait. If I start Pie Launcher with screen in landscape, and rotate my device to portrait, the screen remains in landscape.

Cancel option

Have you considered a cancel option out of the circle menu? Perhaps second finger press (while still dragging with the first)?

This is going to be a great car launcher for people like me who don't like clutter on their head unit! Right now I'm using Discreet Launcher.

Also, I don't know if it's possible but it would be great if one could invoke the menu while in another app - I guess that's called a docker - perhaps a different program?

Apps with multiple startup activities

There are apps that define multiple activities with an intent-filter for the launcher:

<intent-filter>
    <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN"/>
    <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER"/>
</intent-filter>

Would be nice to be able start both activities. Currently the launcher shows just the second one but launches the first one, which is kind of confusing.

New Future for the next Gen!

Horizontal screen display:Match the icon to the horizontal screen.

Leve2D SDK Download here:https://www.live2d.com/en/download/cubism-sdk/download-java/

Is it possible to put the upgrade launcher like this?

I have a idea:LIVE 2D WALLPAPER ENGINE + PIE Luncher + App Drawer = interactive launcher.

Attention : Characters can follow the click points to interact with users!

Add bubble effects to the icon, and the bubble will explode when you touch the icon.

What do you think of this, bro!

Folders

I think it'd be really cool if the pie menu could have folders. I'm really digging the idea of having exactly 8 icons (and thus 8 directions) to swipe as it makes it super easy to get to apps without looking at my phone. However, I use more than 8 apps frequently, and adding more apps to the pie menu decreases the activation zones.

Solution: Folders. Just drag two icons on top of each other to create a folder. I have two ideas on how folder selection works.

Idea 1: when user swipes toward folder without releasing, the folder opens and the pie menu becomes the contents of the folder. Releasing without selecting an app closes the folder and the pie menu goes back to root. This could make folder interactions really snappy, but could result in some icons being outside the screen depending on where the user first taps.

Idea 2: the user selects the folder like any other app. When a folder is opened, the next time the user brings up the pie menu, it will be the folder contents. Tapping empty space will go up one folder. This solves the problem from the first option where apps could go outside the screen, tho it may be slightly more clunky. In this case, maybe there should be some sort of indicator to show that the pie menu is currently inside a folder.

I have an idea

How can I turn the icon into a circle?
Then make them turn around? There are too many codes, and I can't locate them.
Because I think it will be more interesting!
This also solves the problem of horizontal screen icon display!
Tell me where is icon style codes!

Only shows the top few apps

I have a Pixel XL 3. This app automatically selected the top few apps alphabetically for the pie. I was not able to access any other apps.

Icons?

Will you add support for custom icon packs?

F-Droid

It would be great to see this Android app on F-Droid!

F-Droid is an Android app store specifically for free/libre open-source apps. It would be great if your app could be released there, as it is the number one for getting FLOSS Android apps for many people.
F-Droid also builds all apps from source (optionally even reproducible), so downloads from there can be trusted.

The app developer FAQ or the quick start guide may help you to get started.
