turkish-tech-speakers's Issues

A Discussion on the Authenticity and Usability of The List

Hi 👋🏻 I see this as a nicely thought initiative, executed in a non-ideal fashion. I would like to express some criticism, followed by a set of suggestions. You are of course free to disagree, even ignore, as well as refute my arguments.

Criticism: Self-nominated experienced speakers

An experienced speaker, by definition, is a person who spoke at numerous occasions and liked/appreciated by their audience. As such, there shall be some evidence(links to their speeches, or conference pages) as well as testimonials by their audience which can validate the authenticity of an experienced speaker. Of course, such evidence needs to be validated by someone, a curator.

As far as I can see from the current state of the repository, there is no such validation mechanism. Anyone can add their names regardless of their status as a speaker, so the list is prone to be manipulated in its current state.

Suggestion: A More Rigorous Selection Process

If the list shall stay as a list of experienced speakers, it should be the case that the selection/curation process should be more rigorous. (1) There should be some clear criteria(number of talks given, expected experience in the industry) that will allow people who might be intimidated by the vague "experienced speaker" notion, as well as filter out potential imposters who might self-appoint themselves as experienced speakers and hurt the authenticity and the usability of the list.

Suggestion: An Available Speakers List

Another option is to turn the "experienced speakers" list into an "available speakers" list, potentially enriching each point with even more information. It could be geographical constraints(only remote, only Istanbul style constraints), links to talks so conference organizers can inspect the talks easily, "first time speaker" tags for people who would like to become presenters for the first time.
