hexbin's Issues

Donate proceeds from this repo

Awhile ago, I placed a bunch of the hexagon logos on Redbubble; at least the ones that I knew license information on, and ones I thought would be of general interest. It seems to have filled some basic need, as it typically makes around $10-20 a month, mainly in the form of stickers, but the occasional t-shirt or lab notebook.

I can't justify profiting off of other's work, so I'm soliciting ideas for causes to donate the proceeds to, and to make sure I'm not stepping on anybody's toes after the fact (I can take down the storefront if folks take offense to me tossing the hex logos on Redbubble).

In my mind, it would make sense to donate to Creative Commons, but I'm open to other suggestions. Maybe software carpentry or a similar organization?

🍻

More stickers for sale?

I really like this hexbin thing, but can currently only see 7 stickers for sale.
How can we fix this?

Suggestion: Add www.hexpace.net

Hey!
Do add hexpace.net to your webpage. It is a sticker shop which specializes in hexagon techy stickers with custom made designs.

Question: Ease of getting the stickers in India

Hello everyone,

So Juststickers.in is listed as the supplier of stickers in India. Can we get a dedicated Hexbin page added to that store with all the stickers listed there, so that it becomes easier for people in India to get these stickers in individual quantity?

Would love your suggestions on this.

Thank you.

Sumeet

npm logo

@maxogden I made this for my own needs:

npm

Do you like it?
Do you want it?
Is this allowed by npm inc?

Thanks

Animated GIF generator

It would be cool to have an Animated GIF generator which aggregates all logos in a single animated gif that's put in og:image. It would embed marvelously!

Differences in Hex Sticker Sizes

Hey all - just wondering if anyone had noticed any variation in the size of stickers produced by @stickermule recently? I worked pretty hard to try and get the new CampJS VI sticker to match the dimensions of other stickers that @maxogden had linked to on the site (e.g. dat).

After a couple of tries I was satisfied that I had gotten close enough:

CAMPJS: 1.7344" x 2"
DAT: 1.73" x 2"

The source vector is that I generated is exactly 1.73" x 2" but I wasn't too worried about the slight variation post proof - I thought it would be ok (if anything the CampJS sticker would be ever so slightly too big). That doesn't seem to be the case though with the stickers deliver being quite a smaller than what was reported (closer to 1.61" x 1.85"). Just wondering if this is a result of me doing something wrong or that stickermule have botched the order and I should ask them to take a look (I'm probably going to that anyway). Just thought someone here might have had some experience with it.

optimize svgs

Optimizing the SVGs using svgo has lots of benefits:

  • smaller file size, mostly by removing unnecessary digits after comma
  • no vendor-specific stuff (Inkscape, Illustrator noise) anymore
  • unified style via pretty option

I'd be happy to submit a PR that extends the build command. One has to be careful with svgo though, as it (very rarely) removes stuff that has a visual impact.

help maintaining

I don't have the bandwidth to merge all the PRs and do gh-pages builds, would anyone else like to help?

Add webpack logo.

If someone would love to add a PR, they can include webpack logo which can be found here

Thanks for the support!!!!!!

cutting lines + bleed template?

Would be nice to have a png template with cutting lines + bleed, so that we can order stickers at more places. Bonus points if a page at http://hexb.in does it automatically when given a hex png.

Add links to websites

At the moment, stickers link to JSON metadata that include the author name, but not a link to a chosen profile, nor a link to the thing that’s the object of the sticker. If I want to know who made the image «move slow and make things», or when and where the CSV conf takes place, I have to search manually.

Each sticker could be a link to a chosen URL, or the metadata could include link(s).

Thanks for considering!

StickerYeti is hexbin friendly

Graaaaaaaou!

The StickerYeti is also providing stickers following the official hexagon sticker specification.

We have been printing stickers for the CERN for more than 2 years now following this template.

The Yeti is kindly requesting to be also listed as a sticker provider on http://hexb.in/sticker.html our website can be found at stickeryeti.com

Copy suggestion:
StickerYeti prints hexagon stickers on vinyl with matte lamination. Currently located in EU & US, free shipping over $100.

Try us!

Thank you.

Who is in charge for the project?

I am wondering if you guys need any help with the project.

Most pull request sits there without any kind of feedback, some are merged other are not.

I know we are all busy but if a help is needed I can try to help

Add Simple CI test suite

Should be an easy enough contribution, maybe I'll get to it soon.

I accidentally merged someone's JSON with a trailing comma, if we just validated the JSON automatically that wouldn't be a problem!

We could even check that there's a file for each vector & raster listed.

Question: Which of these stickers would be appropriate to put in hexb.in?

hi! my friend @torcado194 and i discovered hexbin a couple of weeks ago and we were quickly impressed by the idea of having a standard size for hexagonal stickers. but as we did research for what stickers were available for purchase online, a lot of the services and brands we wanted didn't exist, so we made our own from scratch. all of them were constructed in a vector program by us.

because of some past concern in #155 regarding copyright, creating an issue beforehand seemed like a wise idea. all of these stickers will be put on the Creative Common license like many of the existing hexbin stickers. none of these stickers are being sold anywhere by us. we only plan to upload them to hexbin, wherever possible.

here's the full list of what we'd like to submit:

list of stickers 1

(note: the red lines in these images represent cut lines)

names for each row of stickers, left to right
row 1: Rubik's Cube, Unity, LSDJ, Brackets, Imgur, cPanel
row 2: Glitch, Paint Tool SAI, Toyhou.se, ShareX, Google
row 3: Less, Discord, Google Play Music, Twitch, itch.io, Git
row 4: Hyper, Trello, Ghost Bird (this is a project that @torcado194 is directly in charge of), Aseprite

list of stickers 2

names for each row of stickers, left to right
row 1: Chrome v8, Teenage Engineering
row 2: socket.io, Stepmania, Stencyl

i preferred to create an issue and ask about the entire collection of hexagonal sticker designs we made so that the hexb.in maintainers here on GitHub could quickly comment and help us figure out which ones seem safe to add to the hexbin project and which ones might infringe on the IP of existing projects or companies. please let us know which of these stickers we should upload and we'll pack them into a single neat pull request!

nodejs logo

Node.js has new nice logo. I would love having sticker with it. But I am not the author of this artwork and not sure about the process.

Additional meta-fields?

A couple ideas for potentially useful new meta-fields:

  • repo_url (or similar): A number of PRs I've reviewed include a link to the repository or website in the online_order_url field. Others embed that in the description field. Would it make sense to include a place for that as it's own field?

  • type: One other interesting bit of information that feels missing is some way to group stickers that represent similar things (e.g., events, organizations, software packages, etc.). For example, hex stickers are especially popular in the R community, as branding for packages. I could envision a predefined list to help keep things manageable.

If you're open, I could take a shot at this. One question would be whether it makes sense to define different types for different programming languages. My inclination is yes, although that might get unwieldy...

right navbar links are inconsistent across pages

Just FYI, on index.html the "stickers" item points to stickers.html, but on stickers.html the same item points to stickermule.com. Also, on stickers.html the "hexb.in" item doesn't take you back to the main page like you'd expect.

Bulk stickers?

I got a new laptop, and need all the stickers.

Any way to get them all without paying $2.74 for each? Is there like a sticker grabbag?
