First of all thanks for ansi-bfl , I use it quite a lot.
When I use it on AIX and Solaris, I have to set the TERM environment variable to dtterm (mainly on AIX if I want colors), as I don't always use dtterm, it's not set by default as my environment variable.
So, finally, I set this (crappyness) directly in your library:
OS=$(uname -s)
[[ "$OS" = Linux ]] || TERM="dtterm"
I don't think it's a good idea to do this, it's just the easier solution I though about for my special case, but I think you should at least update the documentation because there are still some AIX machine out here.
Do you have a more elegant solution to detect which terminal support colors in the terminfo database?
I could try to write a patch if you have any ideas.
Thanks!
