In about one of every 10,000 iterations, the photon step size returned by rodintersect.m is incorrect and puts the photon outside of the medium, at a distance beyond the grid-scoring domain defined by mcrt_build_grid.m, which results in an error. The error can be mitigated by simply restarting the loop at the failed iteration. The source of the error is most likely related to the ray-tracing calculations in rodintersect.m, specifically the equations that determine if the photon path intersects the 2-dimensional projection of the rod in the y-z plane. The error may be due to an incorrect determination of whether the ray trajectory is parallel to the rod. In any case, the error occurs in Part 4 of the function, where xsoln, ysoln, zsoln are selected as the point nearest the original point.
