The outcome of that comment was that we shifted towards trying to create automatic layouts in a little bit more controlled fashion.

Other options for automatic layouting:

• structurizr-graphviz: a Java extension that applies a layout to the views in the workspace — this could be changed to make it work with the other graphviz layouting engines like fdp, sfdp, circo, etc.
• use other extensions like structurizr-mermaid or structurizr-plantuml or the CLI to generate images as part of the build and expose those somewhere else

The graphviz extension writes the layout information back to the workspace so it’ll be retained on structurizr's generated images.

Since GraphvizAutomaticLayout shells out, it could be generalised as “call a thing that generates an SVG from this DOT file” so, in theory, it could be repurposed to work with other graph layout engines.
