imas-psp's Introduction

INSTRUCTIONS
============

For this to work you need perl. If you're running windows you can use ActivePerl, just download, install and you're ready. If you're using some other OS, you know where to get it.

QUICK START GUIDE
=================

1. Extract .iso somewhere (umdgen program might be a good choice for this under windows. v4.00 seems to be broken for me, but v3.00 works fine).
2. If you don't have file lzss.exe in the directory with scripts (You should have it if you downloaded archive from google code), compile it with gcc lzss.c -o lzss
3. Chdir to WHERE_YOU_EXTRACTED/PSP_GAME/USRDIR and do this: ``perl yum-unpack.pl YUMFILE_X.BIN'' (YUMFILE_1.BIN, YUMFILE_2.BIN, or YUMFILE_3.BIN dependig on which file is there).
4. When archive is extracted, copy files from fonts directory into WHERE_YOU_EXTRACTED/PSP_GAME/USRDIR/YUMFILE_X/pom. (This adds english font to game).
5. Convert script files from YUMFILE_X/script with ``script-decode.pl filename.script'', edit generated .txt files or replace them with edited versions from tlwiki.
6. Convert them back into format game understands with ``script-encode.pl filename.script''.
7. chdir to WHERE_YOU_EXTRACTED/PSP_GAME/USRDIR and execute ``yum-unpack.pl YUMFILE_X'' (notice there's no .BIN extension this time). This will create new modified YUMFILE_X.BIN archive.
8. Remake .iso again, replacing original YUMFILE_X with the one you created (umdgen, umdgen).
9. Upload .iso to your PSP and play the game.
10. If you want to make more modifications, do this: ``perl isoyum-inject.pl ISO_FILE_ON_YOUR_PSP FILE_YOU_PREVIOSULY_EXTRACTED_AND_WANT_TO_INSERT_THERE'' (you don't need to rebuild yum again)

UNPACKING ARCHIVE
=================

If you want to mess with all kinds of files insude the game, you'll need to extract them from archive first. Script yum-unpack.pl does this. The archive is named YUMFILE_1.BIN. To unpack it do:

$ perl yum-unpack.pl YUMFILE_1.BIN

This will create directory YUMFILE_1 where all extracted files will be, and file YUMFILE_1.index, which will contain information about all extracted files.

When you're done messing with game files, you must recreate YUMFILE_1.BIN by issuing this command:

$ perl yum-unpack.pl YUMFILE_1

REPLACING FILES IN ARCHIVE
==========================

Recreating archive takes very long time (and after that that you'll have to upload it to your psp!), so if you did just a small modification to one file, you can just insert it into existing archive INSIDE existing iso file (on your psp connected to your computer), you can do this:

$ perl isoyum-inject.pl I:/ISO/imas-x.iso YUMFILE_1/script/1694.script

If you get a message that it's not possible then you have to recreate whole archive.

GAME SCRIPTS
============

Game scripts are stored in .script files. To get more or less human readable from of script, you have to do this:

$ perl script-decode.pl YUMFILE_1/script/1694.script

After that you will get have 1694.src and 1694.txt -- edit them to your heart's content. When you're done, do this:

$ perl script-encode.pl YUMFILE_1/script/1694.script

It will create new script with changes you made that you can insert into game archives. After you encode the scripts, some clever transformations are applied to characters, so don't try to decode it again.

WORKING WITH PICTURES
=====================
Pictures are stored inside .pom files. Program that converts them needs imagemagick installed: http://www.imagemagick.org/
You can convert a pom file with this command:

$ perl pom-unpack.pl 1694.pom

This will create a 1694.png file, or, if 1694.pom had many pictues inside it, 1694-1.png .. 1694-N.png files. You can edit them in your favorite editor now (photoshop). When you're done, do this:

$ perl pom-pack.pl 1694.pom

or, if there was many PNG files and you edited some other than the first one:

$ perl pom-pack.pl 1694.pom 1694-42.png

Be advised that .pom files have palettes in them -- they have only a limited set of colors, and this particular program does not change the palette. What this really means, though, is that if original .pom only had red color, even if you change PNG to green, it will turn up as red in game. When editing PNGs, try to preserve colors.

Some pom pictures have a lot of so-called subpictures in them. Look at 57849.pom, it has a lot of words in it -- 営業, 取材, etc. Game uses each word separately, and to locate where in the picture these words are scattered, it uses .mif files. A .mif (multi image file?) is just a plain text list of rectangles, so you can modify it by hand. But this is tedious, so another program - mif-unpack.pl can be used to represent them visually. Change directory to where your pom files are located and type this:

$ perl mif-unpack.pl 57848

(Notice that picture is 57849.pom, but we run mif-pack.pl with 57848, less by one. .mif files that are associated with .poms usually have number that is 1 less or 1 more than .pom)
This will create picture 57848.mif.png with lots of rectangles that are visual representations of the ones in .mif. Normally you wouldn't need all this, but in some cases, like 57849.pom's case, where 営業 translates as Promotion, and the word Promotion just doesn't fit, this is necessaty. Add .mif picture as layer to the pic you're editing, rearrange layout, save that modified layer, and generate .mif from it:

$ perl mif-pack.pl 57848

(see http://www.tsukuru.info/tlwiki/index.php?title=Idolmaster_SP:Pictures for some samples of modified .mifs)

issue with image file 57848-57849

Well after pack unpack image files i pack my mod iso(After all I can run
my mod iso!) the first image of autosaving are OK reply mail ok but image
57849 and 57849...all are corrupt I read the readme but i don't understand
very well i understand:

Add 57848.mif picture as layer in 57849-15 and rearrange to position but I
see the file are on line position ok (I use PhotoShop cs3) and save but
save all compilation? or save only modified 57848 but the 57848 are ok
(well in my photoshop are on position ok)I save a mod file, and try to
pack but CMD show me this:
mapping 45:(347,0) -> (452,0)

I pack the file and the menu are corrupt i can read a corrupt menu but
with corrupt colors and position too is cut.

however I pack the english mod image(at imas proyect)without
modifications by my selft and i get the original japanese menu,

I will attach captures of the corrupt files (forgiveness if not is at this
moment I am a little busy (resurrecting my psp XD; issues because of flash
themes)

I have a little suggestion:

Maybe you can change words at the file:

Promotion as promo (in my country are the same)
Arragement with stylist as Go with stylist (well i think all know in
advance what do a stylist)
Change clothes as change cloth (in my language clothes are plural)
and Interview; i don't know as intvw? jaja that my suggestion

well is all Thanks in advance

Reporter/Stylist Communication Broken

I downloaded the .iso and patched and compiled all of the scripts, and
everything seems to be checking out fine so far.

Until I get to the stylist and reporter emails. When I go to the communication
event for them, the game skips over the part where I'm supposed to remember
their name and goes straight into the text, giving me all of the different
options, leaving me with a random result. I haven't tried this on the
untranslated .iso, but I have tried it with Makoto and Yayoi.

(c&p'ed from the main talk page, almost nine months later. oops.)

imas-patcher does not compile with M$'s compiler - Yet

To reproduce:
1. Compile imas-patcher in MSVC8 or ICL 10.1 Win32
2. ICL or MSVC8 complains that __attribute__((__packed__)) in patcher.h is
'not declared' (meaning it does not support that GCC specific extension)

Current solution - remove __attribute__((__packed__)), but removing
__attribute__((__packed__)) will break the app. Adding #pragma pack() won't
really help at all.

Instead of using __attribute__((__packed__)), can something else be used
instead? I know this issue can be placed at the lowest priority for now,
but if we can get ICL 10.1 to build the imas-patcher, the performance of
the patcher should increase significantly.

Missing dups.c.inc

I can't build the imas-patcher from source, it seems to be missing
dups.inc.c. Did you forget to add this file to svn?

2.I try to decode but the images result are bitmaps . bmp and not png's
i think is only renamed files to bmp->png
3.-when i try to encode on cmd perl request file mif-common.pl i search on
all files here and no found it.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Inserted text looks like my dog used the keyboard.

Hi, I'm currently studying japanese in a french university and I decided to
try and use your tools to translate the game as I play it.

I managed to use all of the tools to create the YUMFILE acrhive, to extract
script, to modify them, to recreate archive, then recreate ISO, and have it
run on the PSP. I have one problem that I can't seem to solve, the ingame
script is not what I wrote. For example, instead of "Heu, qui es-tu ?", the
game displays "Rljgfx-tw.?"

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. I replaced the 8 .pom files of the font directory (30 to 38), and left
all else untouched.
2. I modified the script using JWPCE, then saved, and converted .txt back
to .script.
3. The full reconstruction of iso or quick injection of script give the
same final result.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Upper case somewhat works, Instead of "NOUVEL ESSAI TRALALA 123456" I can
read "NOUVELl ESSAIh TRALALA 123456", and I can instert japanese characters
with no problems at all.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I'm using "imas-psp-2009-04-05 (directory inside).zip",vista and doing all
my tests on Perfect Sun on 5.00 M33-6.

Please provide any additional information below.
I'm no programmer at all, just a guy trying to better his japanese skills.
English is not my mother tongue but if you'd like, I can contribute what I
can do.

issue with poms files and imagemagick

What steps will reproduce the problem?I try to describe all my issue
1.- pom decode ->ok file 57849.pom 1-18.bmp
I already installed (or i thinks so) imagemagick (very difficult to use ,
to install, not complety information about requeriments to work fine, not
very understandable for non-programmers, not compatible with perl 5.10
itselft, but with a trick on PPD file can work; or cmd show a sucessful
install maybe not) not convert files to png.

I can understand is the imagemagick transformed png file obtained (or
maybe don't is i don't know nothing about programing)

cmd show :
No valid parameter 57849-1.png - 18.png i skip this issue and convert
with other program and try pom-pack->57849.pom 57849-15.png one-by-one
and when try to pack cmd show the next:
not valid parameter: -alpha
Died at pom-pack.pl line 73.

I not modified an other file only pack the file 57849-15.png the others
are originals

I only know magicktrick not install successfull in my computer, I really
can't understand why don't work, I search in google for solutions with
perl and imagemagick but not it's clear only i find solution for ppd
work , and I "install(not at all)" perlmagick not imagemagick

I wonder if there is a way of knowing that I have installed and working-
running

Aditional info:

Programs:

Perl 5.10
perlmagick 5.46(i read about a issue about the versions of programs that
don't work similar versions (5.10 perl-5.XXperlmagic)
visualc++ sp1 2008( i read this is neccesary , I already have c++2005(for
anothers proyects) but don't work i already obtained same issues :

Crash when patching txt files.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Load iso.
2.Load any txt file.
3.Apply

When I try to patch some txt files, the software show this message:
http://puu.sh/dt6Pv/2e51e11751.png and then crash. Patching pictures is
perfectly working anyway.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

About French accents

Hi again ! I just tried your new font and it works like a charm, thanks a
bunch for your quick answer and help, this is so marvelous I'm gonna cry :D

I'm now able to translate the whole thing in French which is great ! But to
tell the truth, I had another problem while trying to reconvert the txt
file into a script file, which is why I'm opening another issue. I tried
writing all French accents (éèêëàâùûôçî) and it returned an error
message.
I assume they are missing from the font, so may it be possible to add them ?
