TLDR: When using esy, building the project is as easy as:

npm install -g esy
esy

Advantages:

• Better tracking of project dependencies, they would be listed inside package.json (even the compiler version 😮, also development tools like repl, formatters and lsp)
• Reproducibility out of the box, it generates a lock file by default, as opposed to opam
• Has compatibility with the node/npm ecosystem, so it can consume packages from the opam and npm registries
• Is able to distribute the project to both the opam and npm registries
