Add-on contribution notifier

We love contributions to the Mozilla add-ons ecosystem! And we have a lot of projects people can contribute to.

To make sure contributors are recognized for their efforts, we want to stay up to speed.

Entrypoints

index.js

This script fetches GitHub pull requests from Mozilla add-ons repositories and sends an email notification whenever a pull request by a contributor gets merged. Contributions are stored in a mongoDB to create monthly report (see below).

report.js

This script sends a summary of the contributions for the previous month. It is supposed to run at the beginning of each month.

How do I get a notification?

There is no interface to do that yet, please open a new issue.

How to add a repository?

Add your repository to the REPOSITORIES array in github/repositories.js and submit a pull request.

Developer notes:

This script lives on Heroku, so it expects a couple of environment variables to work correctly (or at all):

  • We store contributions and some metadata like the email recipients in a mongoDB database. The connection URI is stored in:
MONGODB_URI

Email recipients are stored in the metadata collection. The scripts expects to find a document that has a recipients key, with it's value being a serialized array of email addresses.

  • We use the SendGrid service to send emails. The API key for SendGrid is stored in:
SENDGRID_API_KEY
  • In order to dommunicate with the GitHub API, we need an API token. It is stored in:
GITHUB_TOKEN

An in-range update of eslint is breaking the build 🚨

The dependency eslint was updated from 5.15.3 to 5.16.0.

🚨 View failing branch.

This version is covered by your current version range and after updating it in your project the build failed.

eslint is a direct dependency of this project, and it is very likely causing it to break. If other packages depend on yours, this update is probably also breaking those in turn.

CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md file missing

As of January 1 2019, Mozilla requires that all GitHub projects include this CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md file in the project root. The file has two parts:

  1. Required Text - All text under the headings Community Participation Guidelines and How to Report, are required, and should not be altered.
  2. Optional Text - The Project Specific Etiquette heading provides a space to speak more specifically about ways people can work effectively and inclusively together. Some examples of those can be found on the Firefox Debugger project, and Common Voice. (The optional part is commented out in the raw template file, and will not be visible until you modify and uncomment that part.)

If you have any questions about this file, or Code of Conduct policies and procedures, please see Mozilla-GitHub-Standards or email [email protected].

Version 10 of node.js has been released

Version 10 of Node.js (code name Dubnium) has been released! 🎊

To see what happens to your code in Node.js 10, Greenkeeper has created a branch with the following changes:

  • Added the new Node.js version to your .travis.yml
  • The engines config in 1 of your package.json files was updated to the new Node.js version

If you’re interested in upgrading this repo to Node.js 10, you can open a PR with these changes. Please note that this issue is just intended as a friendly reminder and the PR as a possible starting point for getting your code running on Node.js 10.

More information on this issue

Greenkeeper has checked the engines key in any package.json file, the .nvmrc file, and the .travis.yml file, if present.

  • engines was only updated if it defined a single version, not a range.
  • .nvmrc was updated to Node.js 10
  • .travis.yml was only changed if there was a root-level node_js that didn’t already include Node.js 10, such as node or lts/*. In this case, the new version was appended to the list. We didn’t touch job or matrix configurations because these tend to be quite specific and complex, and it’s difficult to infer what the intentions were.

For many simpler .travis.yml configurations, this PR should suffice as-is, but depending on what you’re doing it may require additional work or may not be applicable at all. We’re also aware that you may have good reasons to not update to Node.js 10, which is why this was sent as an issue and not a pull request. Feel free to delete it without comment, I’m a humble robot and won’t feel rejected 🤖

Travis CI free usage ends Dec 3; mozilla repos should switch to other CI platforms

We're opening this issue because your project has used Travis CI within the last 6 months. If you have already migrated off it, you can close and ignore this issue.

Travis CI is ending free builds on public repositories. travis-ci.com stopped providingthem in early November, and travis-ci.org will stop after December 31, 2020. To avoid disruptions to your workflows, you must migrate to another CI service.

For production use cases, we recommend switching to CircleCI. This service is already widely used within Mozilla. There is a guide to migrating from Travis CI to CircleCI available here.

For non production use cases, we recommend either CircleCI or Github Actions. There is a guide to migrating from Travis CI to Github Actions available here. Github Actions usage within Mozilla is new, and you will have to work with our github administrators to enable specific actions following this process.

If you have any questions, reach out in #github-admin:mozilla.org on matrix.

Not receiving notifications

Hi there! I just received a report from a contributor that he fixed this bug. Unfortunately, I never received a notification from Github that this had been merged. I wasn't sure if the notifier had failed or if the bug fixed hadn't been tagged "good first bug" and wanted to check in. Thank you!
