moz-handler's Issues

CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md file missing

As of January 1 2019, Mozilla requires that all GitHub projects include this CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md file in the project root. The file has two parts:

  1. Required Text - All text under the headings Community Participation Guidelines and How to Report, are required, and should not be altered.
  2. Optional Text - The Project Specific Etiquette heading provides a space to speak more specifically about ways people can work effectively and inclusively together. Some examples of those can be found on the Firefox Debugger project, and Common Voice. (The optional part is commented out in the raw template file, and will not be visible until you modify and uncomment that part.)

If you have any questions about this file, or Code of Conduct policies and procedures, please see Mozilla-GitHub-Standards or email [email protected].

This is the wrong way to handle it

If you are going to be bold enough to put a logo on your site that looks like it has a brand new application layer protocol on it, you need to be bold enough to actually make that protocol, not just jerry-rig it inside an addon or even (now) inside the browser code itself.

Also note that because of this oversight, people who buy new computers can't use moz://a to download Firefox, you have to already have Firefox (thus branding that only works for those who are already customers... oops).

Wiki changes

FYI: The following changes were made to this repository's wiki:

These were made as the result of a recent automated defacement of publically writeable wikis.

extension doesn't override default moz: protocol handler

If you install the extension in current Nightly, it doesn't work, because the moz: protocol handler from https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1331968 handles moz: requests. I suspect that Aurora and Beta are the same (since that feature has been uplifted to those branches). The extension does still work in Release, however.

The extension should override the default handler so it always handles moz: requests when it's installed and enabled.

@kmaglione Do you have an idea for how to do this?
