Could you please explian the 'external' in the CROSSTOOL?

For example
linker_flag: "-Lexternal/x86_64_unknown_linux_gnu_gcc_730/libexec/gcc/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/7.3.0/"
linker_flag: "-Lexternal/x86_64_unknown_linux_gnu_gcc_730/lib"
Where is the external package from? What's the 'external' means?

libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.22' not found

Thanks for putting this together! I tried running the abseil tests with this toolchain and I get an error for some of them:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.22' not found

Looks like it's trying to link the wrong libstdc++. I could fix it by setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point to the dir containing the toolchain libstdc++ but I was wondering if there's a cleaner solution here.
