certain protocols (in my experience anyway) can be unhappy when the bash shell starts its session by cding to another directory and back.

my solution has been as follows:

main includes

# source my functions and aliases
DIR=$( cd "$( dirname "${BASH_SOURCE[0]}" )" && pwd )
source $DIR/functions
source $DIR/aliases
source $DIR/options

and .bashrc
now simply reads
source $HOME/bash_env/main

Your method works, so if you haven't had problems then feel free to ignore this, but you never know :)
