• Make sure to install pip, Python, virtualenv and PostgreSQL

Create a database using PostgreSQL GUI App.

If you prefer command line, install and use psql CLI tool as below:

sudo -u postgres psql

Create database using psql CLI

CREATE DATABASE databasename;
CREATE USER username WITH ENCRYPTED PASSWORD 'password';
ALTER ROLE username SET client_encoding TO 'utf8';
ALTER ROLE username SET default_transaction_isolation TO 'read committed';
ALTER ROLE username SET timezone TO 'Asia/Kolkata';
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON DATABASE databasename TO username;

Create .env file by copying example file in the root folder

cp .env.example .env

And feed your previously created database credentials in .env file

Activate virtual environment using

virtualenv venv
source venv/bin/activate

Install dependencies/packages using

pip install -r requirements.txt

Make migrations using

python3 manage.py makemigrations
python3 manage.py migrate

Create super user using

python3 manage.py createsuperuser

Run server using

python3 manage.py runserver

The app will be up and running on http://localhost:8000

Below are the API endpoints:

• /users/ -> To list all users (excluding superuser)
• /signup/ -> Signup using email and password
• /login/ -> Login using email and password
• /ride/ -> To list all rides
• /ride/<id>/ -> To retreive individual ride detail
• /ride/<id>/accept_ride/ -> To update ride status for drivers (Default django Admin allows users to be set as drivers by ticking the checkbox, else 401 Unauthorized HTTP response will be raised.)
