covid19's Issues

Automate data source collection and aggregation

Setup scripts to gather data from generally sources like:

One will need to update the database/covid19_data_aggregator library to scrape the data as well as the database/run_update.py script to implement the new functionality in daily updates.

Identifying Large & Unused Commercial Real Estate for Potential Use as Hospital Overflow

Hello-

My name is Bill and I'm a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst by day. I had the idea that we could scrape commercial real estate websites/APIs to try to identify vacant locations that could be used for large field hospitals.

In my head, I imagine lots of abandoned big box stores that could be obtained cheaply if we could just identify and map the locations. Ideally we would pull lat/longs somehow for the sites for geocoding, along with the physical address for reference along with whatever real estate data we can find (square footage for sure) .

I created the #mapping room if anyone wants to discuss this further. I just had the idea about 30 minutes ago and it seems like a good use of a few folks.

Thank you!
Bill Conroy

Models for Policy Effectiveness

Problem Statement

In order to evaluate policy effectiveness, we need to create models to tell what policies are doing.

We need to define what "success" for a policy is, and then figure out a way that the data can tell us whether a policy is successful or not.
