Try out mamba instead of conda. Should work

It is also not working for me with MacOS (M1) for both anaconda or mamba, in mamba the problem is that matplotlib-base >=3.1.0,<3.2.0 does not exist and can not be installed.

I'm sorry to disappoint but I haven't worked on (or with) NILMTK for about 8 years, so I'm afraid I'm not in a position to help, sorry!

Same issue here installing on osx (I think) This is the output
